My Maverick is an I-6 with a 3-speed column shift manual transmission. I would love to put in a 302. Would I be able to use the same transmission? How hard is it to put in a floor shift 5 speed? What do you do with the column shifter if you do change to a floor shifter? How much work/money would be involved in a project like this? Is it worth it? I know this is a lot of questions but I'm just trying to make sure I know what I'm getting into before I get half-way through it and realise it's more than I thought it would be. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. :hmmm:

Did you try putting in the 5 speed yet ? Just wondering because I bought my 69.5 Maverick with a 5 speed T5 and some of the clutch parts are mixed and matched such as a 65 Mustang throwout bearing on a 9 inch pressure plate and clutch plate. It started slipping so I tore it down and have had quite a time figuring out what parts came from where. I know I have a world class 5 speed Borg Warner T5 and the center console was cut open to slide the Hurst Indy stick shift through. There is a custom made bell housing gap plate inbetween the trans and bell housing. The plate and pressure plate look farely new and being 9 inches I'm guessing came off a 86 Thunderbird 2.3 turbo model. I'm slowingly trying to figure out what to do next to stop the slipage.Take off the flywheel and resurface ? Reinstall with the new throwout bearing only ? It had only 1 clip holding it on and it was not even on the fork or shaft when I pulled the trans. Anyway anyone willinig to give a suggestion on what I should do next to get this 5 speed back in and not slipping I'd appreciate it.Of course short of trashing everything I already have an spendiig a load of money to replace parts that seem in good shape still. I have the 200 ci orginal engine on my 69.5 Maverick and would really like having this back on the road. Ive done several clucth jobs but no mix and match jobs like this.

What I6 does your car have? 200 or 250? If it has a 250, the bell housing will bolt right up to a 302.

Seems best to create a new thread and ask all this?
