Hi guys, I have a chance at "aquiring" a T5 from a 4 cyl mustang and was wondering if it was worth rebuilding it/converting it for a 302?

Thats the tranny i would LOVE to put into my car. just cant afford to get one. Of coarse it'll take a little fabrication but i believe its more than worth it.

from what I hear the one behind the 4cyl wont last long behind the 302..too much torque.

I was figuring that the 302 would tear it apart, would it be worth re-gearing? V8 T5's are soooooo pricey right now!

1st gear is crazy low on the 4cyl t5 ,but it's been done. the input bearing is a . 59 on the 4 cyl but, you can change the bearing. the v 8 bearing input is a .668 which is a lil larger. They have conversion bearings on ebay. look like a 6203 bearing with the .59 size. it would be a decent trans if you don,t race the car , and have highway gears. good luck, ron

how about the T5's out of a 91 mustang 302, will it bolt right in the 302 73 mavey? also how does the clutch thing work with the original clutch mechanical of the mavericks?

bellhousing will bolt, but I think the fork is a little lower in the newer tranny, so you'll have to convert to cable. Double check that, but I'm pretty sure that's right.

im lookin at doin the same to mine... the 87-93 t5s that came behind the 5.0s is the same length but smaller around... it will bolt right up with no banging on the firewall or floorpans... but... you will need to convert to a cable or hydraulic clutch assembly... you will also need to modify your tranny mount (should be pretty simple) and get a yoke from the t5 because it is longer than the c4 or toploader yoke... hope this helps... if i missed anything somebody fill in the blanks

An adapter is made to bolt it to the old style bell housing.

hi guys I`m new here.I was reading this t5 stuff and yes great swap.I have done this in my 72.I used the pedles from a fox body and clutch cable bell housing ect.I made a plate to where the cable went trough the fire wall. Just to renforce the fire wall.I added the adjuster at the fire wall. And the shifter came out in the right spotOh yea the pedels bolted in where my old ones were. Please try not to use a 4cyl trans, pilot bearing different and IT WILL BREAK.

while i like fabricating, i was going to use some fox pedals in mine but when i had the dash tore apart and the pedals in hand, it wasnt worth the battle. get a set of Maverick pedals and save yourself a headache(y)

wow seems you guys think its a big deal.I didn`t remove the dash or steering. The pedels were removed in less than 15 mins. The pedels work fine, but they are kind of short. If you have power brakes, use the fox booster.Mine were manual,so I removed the cross shaft in the pedel assembly and reused the mav brake padel. The clutch pedel I made longer with my original clutch pedel,by cutting the fox pedel and welding the lower part from my original clutch pedel. After grinding and paint it appears original.the only time consuming part was to line up the hole for the cable.IT TOOK LESS TIME TO DO THE PEDELS THAN TO RESONED TO THIS

Remember you can do most things yourself, don`t be afraid to try something others may think is a bad idea.Just because some one else has not done someting, does not mean you can`t Do it and have fun,if it does`nt work out share that info with others. But if it does let every one know

no modifying of the stock crossmember needed, me and my buddy found out the hard way on his car, we took his stang crossmember and cut out the bolt hole section, then fabbed it to the mav member. then found out it didnt fit! so we did some measuring and found if u can find a factory C4 tranny mount u can bolt it to the t5 and to the stock mav crossmember with no cutting or hacking involved! we also used the stang drive shaft with a oddball u joint from our local parts house
