Hi, I now have a donor 73' 4door maverick which has the 250 cid and C-4 trans. My question is when I go to use the C-4 with my 85' crown vic 302 and it has a AOD, which I thought I could use the flywheel from it, to the C-4, will it work? Thanks Robert

Its really hard to understand what your asking by the way you worded it. Are you asking if the C-4 transmission will bolt to your 302? Or are you asking if the 6 flywheel with fit the 302? Both transmissions will bolt to the 302, you dont need to change flywheels.

I suppose another option would find out the what the balance weight is on the 302 engine crank damper and have the c-4 flywheel balance to that?

    Ok lets make things simple.

Just keep the flywheel thats on your 302. Dont take it off. The flywheel on your 302 will bolt up to an AOD, FMX, and C-4 no problems.

It doesnt matter if your 302 is roller cam or not, the flywheel thats on that 302 will work for any transmission.

It all depends on the transmission-an AOD and a big bell use the same 164 tooth flexplate. The small bell uses the 157 tooth flexplate. Way to tell what size bell the tranny has, if it bolts to the pump, its a small bell, if it bolts outside of the pump with different bolts, it's a large bell.

You haven't worked with many early c4s have you?
Unfortunately,it's not simple. The earlier(smaller) bells will only take a 157 tooth flywheel. As far as I know, the 50 oz balance flywheel on 80-81-up 302s is a 164 tooth part-too big to fit in the early bell.He should have the larger bell,I don't know when they changed them over.28 oz flywheels came in both 157/164 tooth versions. There's also 2 bolt patterns for the torque converter-10.5" and 11".A real pain I had putting an '88 302 behind a late '70s C4 trying to use stock(cheap used) parts.
