I have a 72 Grabber w/ the remote sport mirror on the drivers side. The one that came on the car broke and i had a box full of extra parts that was givin to me and it had another remote mirror. I painted it and installed it, BUT the window keeps hanging on it and i cant roll the window all the way down and also where the remote part is on the inside door where i put it through the hole its just floppy even when i put the nut on. Is there a difference in the mustang, maverick, comet, etc.... Sport mirrors or am i doing something wrong??

    Thanks
    Chaz.

    This one?

I couldn't "view" the graphics. Impossible to read. I printed it and then I could see it. It doesn't show how the cable is routed. I thought there was a clip or something holding it to the inner door paneling somehow.
Cool that they call the mirrors "Racing".

Yes Gene thats the one. I think the second picture shows the routing of the cable so it doen't get hung up in the window. I can view it on line but it is small and since Im in eye glass denial (LOL) I would have had to print it also.

It's your settings set to automatically fit image to screen. The 1st pic with the black background are clickable, so click it. When the image loads again on a new page, left click the picture again. It will then show the image the original size. :Handshake

They do come up awful small, maybe I'll try to reload them bigger. When I loaded them I was on dial up. I just changed over last week to DSL so maybe they will load up quicker than an hour (LOL)

The cable goes forward, around the front window track, then backwards to the mirror. You don't want to let it "droop" because it will interfere with the window (as you have found out).

Ok, I see it now. I printed it and the bottom stuff didn't print for some reason. You mentioned it being there and I looked. Guess I need eye glasses too LOL. Still can't view them at origional size tho.

With Internet Explorer...Click "Tools" / "Internet Options". Select "Advance" Tab. Scroll about half way down the list to the Multimedia section and select "Enable Automatic Image Resizing". Click OK

Sometimes this option is more aggravation than its worth. It's much simpler to just left click an image to over ride this setting...or hold the control key down while rolling the mouse wheel to change the image size.

My washer didn't exist either (previous owner had installed the mirror gimbal into the fiber door panel), so I made one. A bud punched me out a standard washer of 16 GA and I welded the "flat" and "tang" on the ID, then ground it flat again. Works like a charm. Here's a pic I made to show you what it needs to look like. Please check the ID dimension, I'm going by memory here! :rofl2:

    To answer your question:
The base portions of the mirrors are different between cars.
Each model had slight differences in the angle the base takes to support the upper portion. Mustang 2 bases have been tried and seem to have the correct angle to interchange with Maverick/Comet. Mustang, Torino, etc... do not interchange bases with our cars. The mirror will take an odd angle with most bases from other models.

Now, I have no idea if this has to do with your exact issue or not. I doubt it from the sound of the situation. If your mirror mounts properly and looks level with the car, then you are probably okay.

What part of the original Grabber mirror was broken?
The base/pedestal is the valueable part. The top portion can be removed from just about anything and used with the Maverick base to make a 'new' Maverick sport mirror. You can take the top off a mid to late 70s full size Ford/Merc passenger door and fit it to your passenger Maverick base and make a passenger remote sport mirror.
