I have a 72 maverick and an LT1 motor that I want to mate. One problem I see is that the oil pan will get in the way. Is there any way I could change the steering configuration so that it will clear the pan? somthing of a Mustang 2 front end kit or some other cheap alternative?
The reason Im doin this is because the motor was basically free through an insurance buy back and it would be a hot car with fuel injection and 260hp/330ftlbs. almost best of both worlds gasmileage and decent power...$2.30 a gallon is killin me!!
    thanks for the help

The appropriate course of action would be...

Buy a small block Ford to go in the Maverick and buy a Chevy luv to go around the LT1.
Just my opinion, but it's a good one.

Yeah but that would be to easy.
I was just wondering if there was some sort of different front steering setup that would permit me to do this...

I say this a lot but,

If you have a torch, a saw, a welder, and enough beer you can do anything.

I think Mustang II would be your best bet if attempting to do this. Where are you located? Ca? The reason I ask is because your gas prices sound like ours do....

You know what I think is sad...people who get stuck on what people put in their cars. To me hating on different car manufacturers and "interacial" cars is just like racism in life. Theres no need for it... I own many different cars and all have different plans.. 1940 ford with a sb chevy, Falcon with a 302, 63 chrysler imperial(stock), 98 chevy silverado with a chevy motor just to name a few....its all the same to me...I just came here to ask for help...not to get bashed on...but ohwell...everyone has their opinions and Ill respect that, good or bad...
I'm just out for cheap junkyard fun...thats all...not out to impress anyone...

The answer is, nobody knows if an LT1 will fit in a Maverick. :)

And you might think you are getting treated harshly, but c'mon, LT1 engines are worth a decent amount of money and you could trade it for something that will bolt in and be just as quick. So don't take it the wrong way, these people aren't being biased (at least not TOO much ;) but just realistic.

If you really wanna put an LT1 in a Maverick... good luck to you, its gonna be an interesting trip and will require some fabrication.

by all means im not trying to be a jerk either...I know how much an lt1 is worth and thought it would be a kick to see it in the maverick...All I wanted to hear is hard facts that its not a good Idea...not sarcastic(spelling?) remarks...you know what I mean? I know what fabrication is all about after tackling the 40 with the mustang II and making the tubular x member. Im just trying "something different" besides...a maverick with a 302 is like a nova with a 350 its common...everyone can do it...all you have to do is buy it.... I like making things work with the little that I can afford... Oh well.
    Thanks for the help anyway....

If you want to be a nonracist different kind of guy, why don't you put a 429/460 in that Silverado. I think I'll go over to a corvette board and see how much cooperation and enthusiasm I can get when I try to get help stuffing my 351 in a 63 vette.

A bit of flaming going on here. Good tip for everyone. When you join a message board dont come out of the gate with a controversial topic. I think where most of the problem lies is, most questions like this are brought up by people who have no intention, nor ability to even begin to start a project like this. On top of that ask a question to get the Ford vs Chevy thing going. On your side of the LT1 into a mav deal, no better way for me to go ahead and do something than to tell me it is impossible or cant be done. Geez, people are stuffing smallblock chevy's into every streetrod in the world. If any modern V8 can be put in ANYTHING it would be the smallblock chevy. So you have basically a free motor and to install it in your car will end up costing at least a couple grand. You got the time and the talent to do, I say do it, and drive the hell out of it.

    Good post Dan.

ssakayeda, if you've done the fabricating you say you have (which I'll take your word for), you know that anything is possible. It's just a matter of how bad you wanna do it and how much time and money you are willing to spend on the project.

quick answer: YES. The LT1 will fit in a Maverick. It will also fit in a Volkswagon, Miata, Mini Cooper, on, and on, and on....

    Good luck,

    Rick

    Hey Guys?

I'm thinking about swapping a chrysler 383 into a pair of Carhart overalls.
    Any advice?
    hehe
    Just kidding.
Anyone who knows me knows I have no brand loyalty and will always respect the folks that had to work the hardest to get their project done.
