Hello everyone i am going from an 8.8 rear end to a 9" but as usual its not working out perfectly. What can i do if my drive shaft is too small for the 9"? is there an adapter i can use or if you guys know of any drive shafts i can get from a pull a part that would work for this. I have a 302 with a C4 transmission. Thanks guys id appreciate any feedback or links to other threads with the same questions.

Well once you install the 9 inch. You can sell the 8 inch 5 lug for $100-$150.

What do you mean by the driveline is too small for the 9", is it too short or are the u joints that go into the 9" yoke too small. If it is the u joints are too small there is a u joint that you can buy that will convert your driveline to adapt to 9". Sorry I cant remember the # right off hand but I know there is someone on here that will tell you if indeed that is the problem.

You could also get a different yoke for the 9" but that is much harder to do

I use the same driveshaft for the 8" and the 9". :)

    Different yokes for different folks

I ran into this issue a couple time now, one time I had to buy 2 different u joints to get things right because of diameter of cap going into rearend, both times I was using a rearend out of a 57 Ford

what i mean is the lenght of the actual drive shaft is fine but the part that is strapped down to the 9" by the u bolts is too short. The 9" is wider. In other words the u bolts barely grab on to the drive shaft. Sorry i dont know rear end lingo guys =( i dont know what the yoke is or anything.

The yoke, or companion flange, is what connects the rear end pinion gear to the driveshaft, via a universal joint. Its the part with the straps or clamps, one on each side.

Sounds like you need a different universal joint.

It's like a 4150 or 60 or something, but yes its just a u -joint with different widths.
