    Help Please!!!

The 351c has the exact same physical dimensions as the 289 and the 302. Therefore, it is a direct drop in for the Maverick/Comet. Are there any off the self long headers that will fit this engine and get into the Maverick without shock tower or other modifications??

Thanks for any information in advance.

    David

In the autokrafters catalog it list *ES72V headers for 2/b and theyre 1 3/4. and it list *ES74V for 4/b and theyre 1 7/8. Also it sais you need an intermediate motor mount for these headers. I think Dave :username ratio411: did this swap before might wanna wait for him to chime in before you buy anything. Good Luck!

The 351 Cleveland is physically much larger than a 302. My Cleveland fit but it was not easy.

Tubular Automotive, up in New England, made the swap headers for the Cleveland to fit into the Maverick. I've used them but nothing ever fit quite right with them. Tubular told me that the headers were originally designed to fit the Cleveland into a 65 Falcon and I know that bay and a Maverick bay are not the same. They are also very pricey.

I originally didn't do any shock tower modifications but would, if I did the swap again. Spark plug access was crazy but this engine certainly did fill up the engine bay side to side and front to back. My Cleveland is just being finished up, being built into a 393 stroker, and it will be going back in the Maverick but, this time, the towers are going to be history and a Mustang II front suspension is going in. No more clearance issues.

Tubular Automotive is pretty much your only choice for headers, as mentioned above.
I'd get them direct rather than buying them through AutoKrafters... AK is the middleman and puts a healthy mark up on the price.

I'll second the idea of you reconsidering NOT cutting the shock towers.
You will literally have to raise the engine to near total removal just to do basic maintenence. I used aftermarket valve covers on mine and had to pull the engine just to get the covers off! I'd never do any 351 without shaving the towers after that.

Hey, The only thing they have in common is that they have the same bell housing pattern and the the heads will fit but the water passages does not match up. Thats what makes a BOSS 302 is 351 Cleavand heads that is made special to work. Good Luck(y)

    Quite a bit more swaps...
    Bellhousing
    Flywheel/Crank bushing/TO bearing/tranny (manual)
*As well as all the linkage for Maverick manual tranny.
    Flexplate/TC (auto)
    Starter
    Balancer
    Pulleys
    Alternator
    Engine mounts
    Oil pressure sender
    Fan
Lower radiator hose as the water pump inlet is positioned the same.
and if you want to get picky, the thermostat. ;)

Then the 351c car front sump oil pan fits the chassis perfectly.
Use 351m/400/460 distributor to get Duraspark ignition. 302 box is fine.
Unlike the 351w, the 351c fuel pump does not swap, but is located in same place to work with Maverick chassis.

    Side note:
If your towers are not shaved, use stock, or stock style valve covers.
Any sort of aluminum or tall cover cannot be accessed for removal without tower shave.

Sorry, ratio411 did not mean to get you excited, I only meant that the 351c other than the 351m-400 is in its on class by it self, meaning the block, crank, cam, heads, intakes will not work with a 302.:)
