why all the nay saying? i think its great that someone is doing something different.
i know the budget build is what got most of us lol, but it can be done. as far as the 400 being a boat anchor, better rethink i know a guy with an all steel 65 ford long wheelbase truck with a 400 bored .030 over cleveland intake with spacers , cleveland 4bbl heads , stout cam etc.that ran 6.70s in 1/8th mile n/a
    5.90s on drugs.( 175 shot )
he has since changed to a 514bbf but just wanted to say the 400 has potential
hell we all bleed ford blue on here , quit saying no and lets go after those barbarian chevy guys lol

Yeh its a great idea but the only ford 400 engine i know of is a truck engine with around 150 hp:rofl2: Unless its built up, Ide go with the 351.

    400 ford

your rite in its vanilla form it did not produce much h/p.
had a good torque curve tho. and very very few factory engines at that time made any power due to emissions and such. and a build up is what the whole thing is about . the 351w in vanilla stock form is no h/p monster. also, look at muscle mustangs mag and look at there build up of the 400... kinda impressive , for no more than was done. anyways , not trying to argue.. just like things different , never have followed the crowd..main reason im a ford guy and not a chevy guy.
    have a great day :thumbs2:
    p.s.
the 400 came in full size fords , gran torinos etc..not just trucks.
but never in a mustang or maverick.

    looking for one
    400 or clevor?

I've done lot's of research of the 400 potential. There are so many choices to customize our cars I think we'll all agree. The reason I started looking at the 400's is a S/St racer in Woodburn ,Oregon advised me look at it cause it's a stock block 400. Tim Meyer has a 434 crank kit and with an Edlebrock clevelend top end kit that seems to have 550 hp potential. (I wonder how much power Tim IS getting from them?) And more with race oriented heads! The cost of a 408 W kit is about the same as the 434M :thumbs2: but the Windsor fits better than the 400 w/o an M2 conversion which I'm considering. But, how about this , a 351 with the Edlebrock clevelend top end kit? 450 ++ HP .However, after thinking over all of these ideas ( since the car is sitting out back w/ the I 6 still in it ) the "budget" build may go the way of a 347.

Why go thru all that pain? Just start with a 351C block and stroke it. It'll be cheaper than all those combos in the end.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!

if i were you i'd look for someone to trade the 400 for a 302/351.

that 400 is going to be nothing but headaches....

    just look at it...

I'm not saying that it was "cheaper" in the long run but since I needed a crank, rods and pistons anyway, it didn't take me long to decide that 393 was better than 351. :yahoo:

The 400 is still sitting. The mechanic helping kinda broke his foot and refuses to go to the hospital. About to go snag it back and attemp to weld up the manifolds myself.
