Part # 1933 allows a 4 barrel to be mounted to a 2 barrel intake and vice versa. It appears to be pretty straightforward and logically designed enough to work. But what of the intake? Can it support the added air/fuel flow efficiently enough to be a worthwhile conversion? Has anyone here had any experience with this or what? Looks like a possible way to NOT tear into my nice running original engine and still have a 4 barrel like all the cool kids have. For less than $20.
It will probably be too much, get one of them fansy 2 barrel holleys. From what im guessing, its like having the 750 on my car, too much carb for my little motor.
They do work but I would recomend staying on the smaller side of the carb selection. If you go too big it you're wasting money since the 2 barrel intake will just restrict the flow.
I already have a worn out 2 barrel but I also have a decent factory 4 barrel Holley off a Mustang just waiting for something to bolt it to. It's under 600cfm I believe. I have all but given up on a cast iron 4 barrel intake and aluminum ones are too much money so I figured...adapter. I have a 302 and it's wearing tighty whiteys, I want it wearing boxers like a man.
Try looking for an alluminum intake,i see them on craigslist all the time for cheap. As low as $15. I sold a sbc performer for $40. So there are deals out there.
I tried the adaptor. I chunked it. Looks neat but performance gains are not there. I also tried a 2" spacer with a 4 barrel setup, that was also no good. The best I found is carb straight on the intake.
I ran one of those for a long time on a POS Dodge "Kidnapper Van" that I hauled out of my father-in-law's yard. It needed a carb, the only carb I had was a 4-barrel vacuum secondary Holley, and I was trying to spend as little as possible on that van to get it roadworthy. It worked fine for a couple of years. I sold it, and as far as I know it's still working fine. I wasn't trying to wring every ounce of performance or mileage out of that van. I just wanted it running reliably, and it did the job well.
I don't want to tear into my engine and my 2 barrel carb is lame. I own a perfectly good Holley 4 barrel so I figured this would be an option that didn't involve me doing major surgery on the only car I have to drive.
It's worth a try I think. You have nothing to lose but $20. Then if you like how it runs you can score a 4 barrel intake manifold later.
I just wanted to know if it worked. I think I know a guy who has one on his Maverick and he said it was fine.
Yup that would be me Paint...lol But like it was said my carb is a little much for my 2 barrel intake. I have a 800 Edelbrock on it. ( I know but I had it NIB on my self) and if I get on it hard it will run a little rich. But it will start everytime I hit the key.
