He was a Chevy guy! Nuff said! J/K The guy that did the car in was a young Navy recruit that got ahold of the car and tangled with a palm tree late on a Saturday night. The palm tree won. The guy that built the car was a Chevy guy, therefore there was no one to tell him the Stang parts wouldn't fit! He rear ended a big truck in the rain and ruined the Maverick front cap. All he had in Ford parts to repair it was a Stang front cap. So on it went. He did have it looking really nice. He bought a repop grille and bumper, along with alot of other nice parts. I wish I had gotten a pic of it then, but he had another incident with it before I got a camera to it. He was disgusted with it by this point and moved the car from his shop to where you see it stored in the pic. I took the pics there, just to post it up here, even though it was in a neglected state by that time. A young sailor posted at the local NAS saw the car wasting there, and having more money than brains at this point in his life, he bought the car on a Friday, and had destroyed it before the end of the weekend. It was a monster. It had a mean 347 with Victor heads and 5 speed. The cam was solid... I can't recall now if it was solid flat or solid roller, but it revved fast and nasty.
I should have said that of all the work done to the car, the brakes were never upgraded. It lived and died with tiny 4 lug drums all the way around. If anything, this car should be the poster child for upgrading your brakes when you add so much power. I firmly believe if they paid as much attention to stopping as going, the car would be around today.
It's a shame to see such a tragic end to such an imaginative car! Did the person that built the Maverick put Shelby tail lights in it too? (I'm wondering about the elongated holes in the rear panel) -Scott H.
the mustang fenders are not a direct bolt on. you have to graft the rear of the maverick fenders onto the mustand fenders. the body line at the front of the doors are different. i have posted pictures of the differences. i have also mounted 67-68 mustang rear bumper on my maverick. the 67-68 mustang rear bumper was a little short. the edges of the bumper came out even with the body. i didnt think the curve on the mustang bumper looked right on the maverick. i did have to make my own brackets for it.
Jebus that looks sweet! so those are mustang fenders and hood. the hood is baller. I read the post explaining it, but do you know what year those fenders and hood came off of? That is (was) awesome. I just set that as my desktop background lol.
anyone got any thoughts on just welding a cowl onto an original 71 maverick hood (not grabber)? that cowl is SWEET! I want one! (car isn't even on the road yet hahaha, but god I want a cowl now).
Ok, so you just change the fenders and the hood an they fit, just like that, or also the headlamp holders and the grill ?
The fenders dont just fit on...You have to section the rear 6" of maverick fenders onto them to match the door edge.Stang doors are squared off.Mav ones have a gentle curve to em.
I'm going to borrow a 68 fender from a friend of mine, and set it on my car, and see what it'll take. Our local Mustang shop is packed with 67 & 68 Mustangs at the moment.
i like maverick, my problem its just headlamps and the grill but i think that whit this it could be solved thanks for your help
