i found a set of manifolds off of a 1996-2001 mountaineer 302, take a look at them and tell me what your guys think, they look like they'll clear the shock towers with out any modes to them, but i would feel better spending the dow if i had some more input, thanks Stephen M.here is a like to what they look like
Just try and get some maverick manifolds...they're tried and true. You can probably get them cheaper than those. But in the long run if you want to make the most power save up for the Crites 1 3/4 ones
i'll look into it, i just dont have lots of money right now, my shock towers are only shaved about 1in on both sides. do they make the manifolds to fit the winser for the maverick? if so could you point me to the right link
Nobody makes aftermarket manifolds for our cars, but the stock 302 manifolds will work. Justin might have this set still, contact him http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=67301
i know that 302 manifolds will fit the winser but will the motor fit in the car with these exhaust manifolds on it, dose anyone know? like i said i've only shaved about 2 in total off the towers.
I did the 351W swap a long time ago ... Gave up on the idea of using stock manifolds ... they did not seem like they would fit. I also had 3 different sets of headers available, none of which fit either, but seemed like the easier route. Ended up removing 1 inch from each pipe and rewelding the flanges on (351W is 1.5 inches wider than a 302). Headers were probably old Blackjacks that were used on a buddy's 68 302 Cougar. I don't know how you could get stock manifolds to work after looking at my set-up. Some folks have said to really grind on them, get rid of all the ribs, etc. ... if that does work, I am going to say that it still would be really tight. Those Explorer/Mountaineer factory headers look promising ... maybe mod the outlet on the passenger side to point down. Still, no real guarantees there around the steering box ... The other alternatives that are out there are expensive ... Crites, etc ... Best of luck
shaving the towers doesn't give you more header room, it just gives you better plug access. found this info for you!
ok thanks guys, i got a welder fraind comeing over later this week to look at my baby, maybe i'll see if he cant do something with my 302 headers insted of playing with the towers seeing how they are already shaved, thanks again Stephen M.
i have a used set of Hooker 6208's that i was going to use for my '73 project. they list as swap headers for 65-66 Mustang 351w so i figured with the mustang having a very simular engine bay that they would work.... just never got to confirm it
