The carb on my 72 Comet (302) leaks from the accelerator pump. I've tried to tap the bolt hole next to the gasket leak and it's still leaking. If replacing the gasket does not work, I am curious as to what the best carb is if I am looking for something that will fit the stock 302 wihtout having to do any mods. Suggestions?
The holley 2300 is one of my favorite 2bbl carbs they're available in 350cfm and 500cfm. Plus they came on ford engines, mine was a a direct fit when i had it on my mav. I got it off a truck i think.
Holley 350 for economy, the 500 for performance. Both are direct bolt ons with only a minor rerouting of the fuel line to fit.
Baddad457 what headman headers did you use I need to buy a set for my 75 Comet that is coming in the next three weeks.
It doesn't take much to make the pump leak on the Ford 2v carbs and it also doesn't take much to fix it in case you don't wanna buy a new carb. You can simply take the pump off the carb and lay it on a good hard flat surface. Lightly tap the sides of the housing between the screw holes back into shape. I have used a wide bladed flat screwdriver and it worked well. Install a new pump diaphram when you put it back on and don't over tighten the screws. I have stopped many of them from leaking over the years like that. Just don't try to use the old pump. Once they leak, they'll likely always leak.
