I have located new information about the Mexican Shelby Mavericks online

I have found more information online about the Shelby Mavericks of Mexico.
This article is mainly about the Mexican Shelby Mustangs, but it does mention the Shelby Mavericks, and it does shed more light on the subject.
I translated the article using Google translate.
It does give the town that Shelby de Mexico was located in for all of our Mexican members.
The article appears to be written by a member of the Shelby Mexico Club.
I linked a picture of an invoice showing they did sell their Shelby's to the United States.
I will try to find more info for those of us that are interested in this undying story.

    The Shelby de Mexico
    Author Josele
Except in USA, particularly in Mexico. It is scarcely known one of the most atypical in the history of
Shelby.El Mexican businessman, dedicated to construction issues, concerns began Eduardo Velazquez
automobile in 1965 when it bought a factory hardtop prototype Shelby almost certainly used by the
Ken Miles pilot to test different aspects of the suspension and brakes to set the production pieces and
amendments to be adopted in the construction of the first Shelby GT 350 in EE.UUEl car equipped with an engine raced
289 specially prepared by Lew Spencer in LA for Shelby American during 1965 and 1966 driven by the image
Juan Emilio Proal local, getting an outright win and several podium finishes in the evidence on which participó.Inicialmente
Velázquez became the exclusive distributor of Cobra name parts for all of Mexico, as in the sale of
Cobra to the Ford house, stipulated among other things that they could not sell pieces of that name within
U.S. and in neighboring Carroll Shelby found a good deal, since it began to assemble there Mustangs
and that fans were becoming too numerous for the new American model. By end 1966 Velázquez
Shelby parts and also distributed and in 1967 the Mexican businessman and Shelby American society had created
"Shelby de Mexico SA" setting his base of operations in the city of Nuevo León.
All production was 67 that was based on the only logically bodywork was manufactured in Mexico,
notchback. The cars were fiberglass cowling, rear spoiler, new taillights, tires ten
and spoke to potentiated engines intake manifold, exhaust Tri-Y, 715 cfm Holley carburetor and other parts
original Shelby Cobra as rocker covers and air filter specific, while modifying the
suspensions to make them more robust, given the state of the country's roads by Koni shock absorbers,
larger-diameter anti-roll bar, rod and bar export "Monte Carlo" among the turrets and drawbars
on the rear axle. Needless to say, the end point emblems were placed in the body and the steering wheel,
distinguish clearly that it was a Shelby. While 67 and 68 models used the motor 289 from 69
and only 302 engines would be used. 69 In the intervention model based on the factory Mustang was important and
so in addition to incorporating all possible Cobra parts to the motor, added a front spoiler, rear spoiler,
specific hood type air outlet and a Boss 429 hood covering him outside on the tach (tachometer) to
hardly be read without looking away from the post of conducción.En body pieces were created fiber
glass (rear roof extensions) that linked the end of the roof with the rear spoiler, while emphasizing the
dynamic body image was laterally as a fastback and then finishing off the entire roof with vinyl
black or white, very fashionable in the época.Como result of the country's laws requiring 45% of Parts
national, the engine became the 302 manufactured in the city of Hermosillo, the upholstery was also different from
USA, as were made in Mexico and the rear axles were owned and built in Motorola / Dana Corporation
Mexico City. The Shelby colors of Mexico production were red, white, black, gold, emerald green and blue Acapulco.
Total production was contained with 169 units in 1967, 203 in 1968 and 306 in 1969 offered in 1971 models
Maverick specific as Shelby 302 engine (built about 300 copies), Mustang GT 351 (200
units) and Continental Galaxy (750 in 1971 and 1500 in 1972), units that were distributed all over
Ford dealer network in Mexico. Shelby International Inc. Mexico ended its existence in early 1974
because after the last model 72, the GT 351, sales were not expected and the production was based almost between the years
71 and 73 in the transformation of coupes in false Mustangs Fastbacks. On the sporting side which must be highlighted
material fact that was built in 1969 of a single motor racing 377 ci (Cubic inches = c.i.
Cubic inches. ex: 289 c.i. = 4734 cc) which was mistaken in external appearance with a 302 ci Fiber was used
profusion around the front, front and rear wings, bonnets and doors to reduce weight. The roll structure
was integrated into the lower body and united front and rear subassemblies. The brakes were equipped with
exclusive vents and all the engine compartment was studied for channeling outside air coming in and for
better and faster hot air exhaust leaks. The car is called "Free" and its extraordinary
engine whose definition intervened Carroll Shelby, was the first time, two heads drawn Gurney-Westlake and
Weber carburetors instead of Holley, providing a whopping 450 hp. Juan Emilio Proal again drove the car
and carried him to victory in the Grand Prix of Mexico, Mexico-Cuernavaca Race in Valley road race
Bravo-Bosencheve in Guajanauto Leon's career in racing Guadalajara, Acapulco also won the
Road and going down in history as the best racing Shelby built in Mexico. date, much of
the production of the Shelby de Mexico has lost, although its promoter retains Eduardo Velazquez
"Free" used in classic races and meetings and still occasionally is known about the
"Appearance" at a farm loss, another Mexican who was believed Shelby disappeared

I'm 99.9999999999999999999999% sure they did not exist.

Unless i see an actual picture of carol shelby signing the dash of a brand new maverick with "gt something" on the side back in the early 70s, keep on trying.

Yes Justin, as I read through all 250 posts in this thread, it is true that Carroll Shelby did not personally endorse these Shelby Mavericks, but it also appears to be true from this much documentation, that they did exist, and were made in coordination with Ford Motor Company (licensed by Ford of Mexico to a number of dealers). I'm sure if one surfaces that has all the parts, and has credible documentation, that it would indeed be a very valuable Maverick.

TWO SURVIVING SHELBY DE MEXICO MAVERICKS POSSIBLY SPOTTED IN MEXICO.
I have found a facebook page entry from a guy in Mexico that appears to be a Mustang Club Puebla, A.C. member.
If you read down, he mentions spotting two of the surviving Shelby de Mexico Mavericks in Puebla, Mexico. One of them the "Gold" color, that is listed as one of the 6 colors Shelby de Mexico used.
Again, I translated it using Google Translate.
So Maverick75, if you can email or contact this group in Mexico, about these Shelby de Mexico Maverick sightings, that would be awesome.
Here is the facebook page, Mustang Puebla Club page, and the Google translation:

"so it's Maverick shelby, I know of two in the city of Puebla, one that was badly damaged and its owner gave it to a mechanic as payment for some repairs and a gold color that is in very good shape and suddenly be seen our streets."

Thanks Maverick75. From the Facebook page, it looks like the name of the guy is Alex, and he posted this about 2 months ago. It says his latest post was on May 3, 2010, so this is fairly recent posting.

Hey Maverick75, If you can ask them nicely if they have ANY additional information about these Shelby de Mexico Mavericks in general, even if they don't have pics or know where to find them, that would be great!

I know from the facebook page that these guys have seen the pictures of the original Eduardo Velazquez's Shelby de Mexico Maverick at the auto show, because they posted links to the same pictures we have, but from another website. This makes me believe they at least are knowledgable enough when they spot a Maveick with these options. They sound very knowledgable of the Shelby de Mexico story in general. So good luck.

Here is an auto adveritsement that I found on a Mexican website that appears to have been an ad for a supposed "one of 300" Shelby Mexican Mavericks.

I wonder if the picture in the Ad is of one of the original Mexican car dealerships that sold the modified Shelby de Mexico Mavericks, or if they are misleading the buyer, and it is actually the clone, and a different magazine cover, that was featured in this thread:
    http://www.maverick.to/mmb/showthread.php?t=46213

    The Google translation says this:

    "1972 SHELBY MAVERICK
