yeah the towers were beat pretty badly , im concerned if the previous owner didnt beat them so they wont line up where they are suppose to, thats why i am putting everything together first, In theory it should all line up and fit, in the same spot the mounts should line up, im still not quite sure how the headers are suppose to set without hitting in spots..
the pitman does hit the tube, but only when the wheels are turned to the right. and it seems that if the motor moved back a little or the headers bent in towards the motor more than it would work... just cant quite figure it out.
I would put the correct mounts in and snug the bolts only. Try the steeringand see how it all ligns up before tightening everything down. IF you can, shave them towers. It will give you more room. Are the headers correct for the make/model? They seem different than mine, but I have a 302.
yeah they are flowtech long tubes, supposedly specific for 351w 71-73 comet application... it was a special order or something i had to wait over a week to get them. I dont guess it would hurt anymore denting them a little than the scars and dings where they are hitting... but i dont want to get to crazy denting and bending and puncture a hole in these brand new headers...
That's good that they are supposed to be correct. Yea, take it easy cause they bend and can puncture. I have wrap on mine and there is a hole rubbed in the wrap at the spot that touches the box, and it aint even run yet lol. Power steering equiped vehicles have a drop bracket from what I have read also.
What kind of drop bracket? Where could I research a little or maybe some pictures, and what is it suppose to be made for? I'm not familar with the brackets.
the car does have power steering, but the tube sets on the steering box, is there anything that can be done without shaving the towers?
The motor sets a little high and the tube hits, shaving would help the passenger but it still hits on the box on the other side, any clues?
I think that's the way it is. The shave will not help that. I pryed my tube over a little with a big pry bar once it was all in place. After that I took the headers out and wrapped them. That took forever. That was when I shoulda shaved but did not know about doing such a thing. This site is valuable when it comes to our cars. I just found it and didn't start using it till I was all in place the second time. The bracket will be needed since you have PS. I'll do a quick search..brb.
I agree this site has been very useful, and I might be forced to shave the towers, but still the steering box is an issue. I'm done beating the wall for today. Eat sleep and regroup. Thanks guys, everything posted has been usefull.
