I'm 17 and not very smart so I need all the help I can get! Hahaha. Iv seen other forums but I'm still not %100 clear on what I need to do. I'm looking for a 5 lug rear end that will just bolt right up. So a list of what model and year of cars with rear ends that will work would really help out! Thanks. Davon:huh:

Any 8" out of a Maverick or Comet will fit and bolt right in.:)

    :Welcome:

I would just look for a donor Maverick rear. They are easy to find. If you can find an 8 or 9 inch from a Granada or Monarch, they also bolt right in. The Lincoln Versailles was the hot ticket a few years back, to get the disc brakes, but they are expensive to restore.

    :)

my car was a 4lugger to start out. i took a rear ended out of a mustang which happened to be 8 inch and swapped leaf springs from my 4lug axle to the 8 inch axle and it bolted right up. i also ended up putting on air shocks too. it was a pretty easy deal.....

They are wider so you'd have to use deeper offset wheels to keep the tires inside the wheel wells.

I have a similar question but more in a performance way. I have finished up my motor and tranny and now am looking for a rear end. I am on a budget so i can not go to wild with one.
Im mainly looking for one i do not have to shorten, everything else i will be changing anyway. The best I can tell there is no stock 9 inch that will work. But the 8.8 should. Im currently looking at a 8.8 out of a fox body thats already built up to just about what I want. Im told it will work but just wanted to know if there was anymore info out there and if there was a sheet with axels that fix closely with our cars without having to be shortened.

Someone told you wrong. The Fox body and newer Stang 8.8's are wider and use a completely different suspension (4 link vs your leaf springs) Probably the most cost effective, easiest to find 8.8 is those from the 94-2001 Explorers. These all have 31 spline axles (vs the Stang's 28's), many have traction loc and better gear ratios such as 3.55 and 3.73's. A very few had 4.11's. These rears are also not a bolt in deal, but are easier to fit in a Mav than a Stang 8.8.

I recently bought a '77 Versailles to use the posi rear end and front & rear disc brakes on my '72 Grabber. Why are they so expensive to restore?

They're not really. Just a few dollars more for the calipers and rotors compared to other applications, if you have to replace these parts.

He was saying he had a friend install one out of a same year car into a maverick.

This is the posting :"I have a built 8.8 rearend out of my 93 coupe,it has a eaton posi unit,31 spline strange axles,355 gears, welded axle tubes, half inch studs,c clips, and girdle, comes complete with brakes and emergency brakes, all fresh,if interested give me a call at 214-881-3178,you cant find a better deal for 550 bucks"

It looks good and apparently he has a receipts for everything. I can put pearches and shock mounts and the rest, im just not wanting to narrow the rear end is all.
