I run headman headers summit turbo mufflers and the rest of the exhaust for a 1971-1973 mustang v8 2 1/4 inch and bolted up nicely with very little mods.have a great day sputzy
Just a question, is your car a floor shift ? its been said long tube headers wont fit a column shift car... Oh and I have 6901 hookers and cheap turbo mufflers...
I have a column shift. But I found this Thread so I was going to try this. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=21680
I know they will fit, I bought a 74 grabber 302 column shift and it had long tube headers on it when I got it... I didn't know then that they say it wont work or I would have figured out what was done to it.. I drove it for a year with the column shift automatic then put a hurst promatic in and through the column linkage away I still have the headers sitting on a shelf... I wish I got pic's of the set up....
Well I finally got them in. It was alot of work, I had to lift the motor about 3" and i rerouted my shift linkage. And I had to dent it some to clear a shock tower. so the hole process was challenging I had to cut off part of my drop bracket and grind down the heads on some of the bolts. But they are in and I am happy. I ran 2 1/2" pipes with cherry bomb vortex mufflers the sound is great.
I have seen some of those Summit headers. Im surprised you didnt need more dents to clear the steering box too. They aren't just like the Hedmans, because the Hedmans will go in with no clearance issue. Ive heard the Vortex mufflers on a Mustang and they do sound pretty good.
I am very happy with my Hedman Headers. I also run Magna Flow mufflers with no pipes running to the back of the car. Sounds pretty good, if I don't say so myself.
Not if you have a 351w! As for the original question... Summit headers, Summit 2-chamber race mufflers, 2.5" pipe, dumps at the axle. Yes it's loud. But surprisingly, it's not loud in the car. Maybe it's the peel-n-seal I put in the trunk, or maybe it's dumb luck, but I can have a conversation in the car without raising my voice a bit, unless I'm standing on the gas with the RPMs way up. The drone is only slight, and only if I'm driving at a sustained, very specific RPM around ~1200, which is pretty much never. I'm happy with it.
