Exactly my point. He openly admits to and enjoy'd the little car builds. He outright denied ever being involved with a Shelby Maverick. So to me its a done deal. Just a Maverick with add on parts that Mr.Shelby had nothing to do with. Hell we have Rays car. Nice build with add on parts that Shelby had nothing to do with. Same thing to me. The rest of you can continue to chase the Shelby dream Maverick. Thats cool. Rays already driving one though.

 

Shelby himself had virtually nothing to do with the 69-70 Shelby Mustangs either, but they still command prices far above other standard 69-70 Mustangs (other than Boss 429's and perhaps some other limited production versions). Styling of the 69-70 Shelby Mustangs is at least as questionable as the Shelby Mavericks. Yet they're still Shelbys...

If an Ed Roth car can still be found parked on the street in Mexico, a Shelby Maverick is bound to turn up SOME day...

this should be put into the world guinness records for the longest thread on the planet, why are folks so hell bent of finding a "shelby Maverick" anyway or trying find evidence that there was one or that there is an "original" one left?

Chuck i think i bought my first set of Maverick quarter panels from you back in 1998, just wanted to say thanks for the great sheet metal and i'm sorry to say but the panels didn't last a month after it was on the road, a cell phone talker ran into them with a mini-van.

 

Well, that sucks... And makes me feel old too... Ha, ha, ha. Sorry about the accident. Now it's time for a rebuild or a whole new Maverick project!

Nope; not me. I've only dealt with Maverick/Comet parts since 1990. Never had any thoughts or intent to deal with anything else. I'm not nearly as active dealing with parts anymore due to my full-time career, but I still have two buildings full of stuff that needs sold, so I keep a little eBay store going and field inquiries for other stuff, and I'll keep doing that til it's all gone.

And for anyone else out there thinking ahead, I am setting it up in my will to donate my remaining Maverick/Comet parts to the Maverick/Comet Club International so that the club can auction or raffle it off. Hopefully that won't happen for many years to come, but I'm sure there will still be some stuff left that will be even harder to find by then.

I'm planning on donating any finished Mavericks and all my Maverick/Comet toys and memorabilia to the Henry Ford Museum. I know there are several serious Maverick toy and memorabilia collectors on here who may have as much or more than I do, but since I've been collecting it since prior to 1990, I'd have to guess I have one of the most extensive collections. I also have a ton of factory literature, manuals, and prototype photos and information. I'd like all that stuff to stay together and get it somewhere where future generations of potential Maverick enthusiasts can see it. Before I croak I hope to get it set up nice to display and host one of the Maverick Roundups so people can come see it. I hate that most of it is just boxed up out of view right now.

So for anyone else out there wondering what might happen to their collection of Maverick parts, toys, and memorabilia, you might think about doing something similar. In my case, I have a son, but he has no real interest in my Maverick stuff. He's of the rice-burner generation and wouldn't appreciate it anyway. And storing it or selling it would be quite a burden if something happened to me in the near future. So just food for thought. Don't mean to hijack the Shelby Maverick thread!

As for this thread. There's a reason it's so long-running and been viewed so many times. A Shelby Maverick would be the Holy Grail of Mavericks. Whether a person thinks they're better looking than any regular production Maverick or not, they still are what they are; a super rare version of our beloved cars that has ties to one of the most iconic legends of the automotive world, even if only a little. And by the way, given their "factory" 4-barrel induction, dual exhaust, and 4-speeds, they would have been the fastest "factory" Maverick/Comet ever released, along with some of the dealer-modified Mavericks and Comets such as the Bearcat and Stabber. So that alone still makes them special. And when you throw in the fact that only 303 were produced in a country not typically known to value vehicles beyond their useful life, they become the ultimate unicorn waiting to be found...

 

I had my original 72, 302 v8 car, comet, Shelby de Mexico clone, signed by Carroll Shelby. I am wondering , am I the only one?
