Well, I've got three lap belts in the back, and that's fine, but the front bench has this miserable setup where the shoulder belt and lap belt are separate things. Well, in my opinion this is unacceptable. I want to know if anybody's ever taken those lovely one-piece seatbelts from a modern car and put them in a maverick...

Lots of aftermarket retractable belts out there. Its a nice upgrade and yes the old 2 piece does get annoying sometimes. I leave mine mainly cause its fun as hell to watch people get in the car the first time and try to buckle up. Even more fun the first time they try to lean forward.LOL.

True, can't beat a good old fashioned trolling...and I might also want to save the hundred bucks for something...engine-ier..

Any details or pictures of the install. Sounds like a good solution to an annoying problem. I don't use the shoulder belt much because its such a pain.

Any recommendations for something that would fit in without a lot of fabrication? I've looked at some of the aftermarket belts but couldn't tell how well they would work out in the Maverick. Didn't see anything specific to the Maverick.

I like a lot of the old timey character but also like to update for performance and safety. Shoulder belts, when worn, can prevent a lot of injuries.

I was in a car accident where all the truck had were lap belts.

My head smashed into the windshield.

Old car or new car mine will always have shoulder belts. I don't want my head smacking into a windshield ever again, or worse the steering wheel.

Those "old" belt are better than new belts, here's why; the new belts are for comfort, and allow to much movement during critical manoevers and crashes. The "old" belts can strap you in tight, even on a bench seat, unitizing the drivers with the car for better control and the passenger will not experince "shock loading" when the belts finally stop you from moving.
Look at what racers use... they strap in for a reason!
These type of belt have kept me alive more than once... once I was spinning on the roof of a vehicle then launched up onto a Lexus. I was litterally hanging upside down when I stopped... Not a scratch, litterally. Another time straight into a tree at 50+... I would be dead with belts that allowed movement.

I wear the whole thing. I've gotten use to fastening them - It's not a problem, now. When I first got the car it was a little frustrating. It takes a little more effort and time to fasten them and u can't do it on the fly like todays cars. Like Mav 75 states; I don't want my head hitting the windshield either. Remember, these cars don't have air bags, majority don't have energy absorbing bumpers, crumple zones, etc.
It is funny when folks try to figure out how to fasten them.:biglaugh:Even folks who were around when this kind of belt was the norm.
I had a 73 Ford LTD, but for the life of me can't recall if it had the two piece belts.
Anyone help me out on this one?

Does that require a second mounting hole in the rocker panel? One to mount the retractor and another to mount the lap belt? That what it looks like in the installation instructions (for the Mustang).

i used the one existing mounting hole in the rocker for mounting both ends. works flawlessly. once i get back to the garage, i'll try to remember to get pictures!
