I have a 74 comet 2 dr with all drum brakes. I would like to convert the front brakes to disc. what parts would i need? Should i just buy the conversion kit and what kit should i buy? Also have no brake booster and master cylinder needs replacing.
Do a little searching (using the tech articles, and the search feature) , and a lot of reading and you should be able to find more info than you'd need. Also there are a few guys in Ontario that sell parts.
75-80 Maverick/Granada/comet/monarch rotors, spindles, bearings, dust caps, hoses, calipers & pads, caliper bracket, non-power MC and the portioning valve. You may also have to buy the outer tie rods for a disc maverick, some require it and some don't. As for a kit one from www.discbrakeswap.com/ will run as much as piecing one together. It'll just save time to buy the kit. They don't have a kit listed for mav/comet but with just an email/call they will set you up with the right kit.
If you can find a Granada/Monarch or a disc brake Maverick in the junkyard, you need all the parts between the upper and lower ball joints.
I have 1972 magazine called small cars '72 . A guy Penn Lenson installed disc brakes from a 65-67 mustang. Comet and Fairlane will work also. The discs will bolt right onto the existing spindles if your Maverick has the early spindles and bearing size.
No more junkyard parts for me .......... For $525 I don't see how you can miss with this kit from CSRP - their parts are first class .... http://www.discbrakeswap.com/Mustang Disc Brake Conversion Kits SWAP2.html
Tried starting a new thread but maybe shoulda just asked on this one. Did you guys actually use Swap2 or is that just the link you happened to grab? If Swap2, any special reason?
Definately use the swap kit #2 - as it is everything identical to the Granada parts. #2 has been the tried and true way to put disks on a Maverick for many years now. Why mess with success.
AWESOME!!!! Thank you so much! When I called CSRP and they said Swap1 I got confused, as Swap2 looked like what I needed. Gonna email and order those suckers tonight!
