You will find that the cap is larger than the tail panel raised portion on the Mav/Comet. I have seen someone use one on this board, maybe search for Mustang gas cap or something similar to see the picture.

It works... Yes, it's a little larger than the raised portion of the tail panel but it bolts on like stock. I don't think it looks out of place on my car, but that's just my opinion.

It sure does look good, didn't mean to make it sound like it was drastically larger than the tail panel. :tiphat:

I should so see if any members here could junk yard search for parts for me.. the junk yards within 100 mile radius all pre pull useful and valuable parts prior to dragging out to the "Pull and Save" lots. I have wasted years on that before my cousin started working there and informed me. they sale the parts online and via Spaldings another company holding.

i used a 1967-68 mustang gt gas cap

i used a 1967-1968 mustang (gt?) gas cap, i had to grind the back of it so it seats flat on the tailpanel, and gring it so you have space for the trunk key. not very nice that grinding but it works. maybe you can make a better job than me. but it looks good. there in the space where the horse goes maybe you can get creative and put a maverick bull decal, or a 1970 maverick grille emblem or something.

Hmm.. maybe , maybe not who knows I know its possible now. :bouncy:
Your cap looks awesome to me :thumbs2: good job!
Kinda like the idea of being creative and doing a custom printed cap onto what you did though.. You guys are giving me so many useful and helpful ideas. Besides there is something about customizing it by hard work and effort that seems more appealing to me than just buying a fixed or original show quality. I have seem some really great custom stuff here.
