What year Mavericks or Comets had clear/white front turn signals?

Hi Brian.. good to meet you. Yeah I have a 71 Comet GT.

Have to fall back on my newbness here as I thought that the grill lights were actually the turn signals. lol

The main reason that this wasn't apparent right away is that my lower turn signals are just flat out missing from this car and I assumed that it never even had them there due to the uppers being the turns.

So, after looking around a bit more and actually putting the time in to learn.. I do see what you're saying now and my previous question about making one set a driving light.. and then adding the other for a turn looks silly as hell to a veteren owner.

Really appreciate the time you took to clear it up a bit more for me and very well explained. Now apparently I'll be in the market for turn signals and I may have to run some temp wires to use the grill lights as my turns.

Do you know if the 71-71 Mustang lights and brackets are the same as this car(cause they look damned close)?

Thanks again for the info, Greg

PS. I agree. Ambers look better on yout red car. Mine is white and would probably lean towards the clear/white config myself because I like the increased camo effect. Just helps that utilitarion equipment to blend in better, IMO.

And to hopefully answer one for you as a small form of repayment for your time?.. the parking/running lights must(at least I believe they do) emit red in the rear and amber in the front with whatever combination of lenses/colored bulbs make it possible. One of the better laws the government has come up with if you think about it really. lol

The main benefit being that other motorists/pedestrians can see the vehicles orientation/direction of intended travel and/or make others better aware of possible movement if the vehicle accellerates from a standstill. IIRC.. the trend towrds amber front lights increased in the late 60's and pretty much took over from there. Although the trend for "chrome reflector/amber lighting" seems to have taken over some newer models due to the increase in the younger generations need for more "bling"(and I do admit I like some of it too on certain cars).

Generally speaking, the clear lenses require amber(or red) bulbs to meet federal guidelines.. whereas the colored lenses obviously do not require colored bulbs to get the same effect. I do know that in some states you can get a ticket for having clear lenses with white bulbs(think import tuners).. but I'm not really sure of the details/requirements there.

Hope that helps you even close to as much as you guys have helped me out so far. :)

Actually now that you mention it, the info I provided pertains to Mavericks. I looked through the gallery and it appears comets only had the above bumper turn signal. So nothing is missing from your car... I wonder if anyone has added the lower turn signals to a 71-72 comet? Your questions aren't so silly after all.

ok.. it's starting to make more sense now cause I'm seeing so many combo's my head is spinning. lol

Which brings me back to my previous question again. To convert to tops to clear lenses with small halogens for better visibility? Hey.. if a damned Lexus can see that good and still be able to legally blind the schlitz out of me?.. I should get the same opportunity to return the favor. Why should I have to spend 60 grand to be able to see better too, right? :)

Do you know if the lower turns for the Mustangs use the same housing as the Mavericks?

I found these and the price isn't horrible at all.

    Thanks again.

lol.. I just noticed that it says "parking lights" in the description. Obviously will need to mod those housing to accept turn bulbs. I'll keep looking.

Heres what I suggest. Leave your directionals where they are. Use the lens you like best. Add a set of driving lights below the bumper..
    5036_1_md.jpg

None of the lenses were designed to have more than a 1157 bulb behind them.. The Sport Lights were decorative, more like a daytime running light. Low wattage. If you are looking for real performance from a driving light, leave the Maverick parts for the Mavericks.

Of course Brazilian Mavericks came with real glass lensed driving lights in the grille, but I dont want to confuse you.

Not to be a nit-picker but in the interests of accuracy for the OP I believe that in '76 for Comets at least they went back to the clear-ish turn signal lenses.

Thanks for the clarification bud.. I'll check it out. While I'm certainly the nit-picky type.. I don't mind any and all input on the subject. Although expert clarification is usually better than casual speculation of course. lol

Not to diss anyone knowledge on the matter(and I don't really know the regulars/experts yet).. but I figure they're all just potential leads until I hunt them down to prove they won't actually do the trick. Life has taught me to keep the salt handy, is all. :)

oops.. should have been "amber lenses look better with grabber orange".. now that you mention it. Damned monitor's color settings must be off again! :p

@ Brian. Yeah.. I'm looking into a driving light option too. I drive faster than almost everyone around me most of the time and even though I do slow down a bit at night(hard to see cops and radar detectors only tell you when you've already been shot rather than helping to avoid the ticket much of the time).. there are many deer on some of the roads I travel. Rather have clunky looking light on my bumper or tucked into my valance.. than a smashed up front end from hitting one. Form follows function, I guess.

Truth be told.. I need to worry about rebuilding my C-4 first and then getting my motor swapped into the car before I even concern myself with these types of details.

As long as it drives and it's legal is the main focus for now but I always try to have as much foresight as possible into future details/mods. Which usually just causes undue/added stress in the end. lol Most of the time my project turns out a bit nicer with that extra lead time though.. rather than flying by the seat of my pants and making it up as I go along.
