Just wondering if you guys could give me an option on this rear on craigslist.
I was thinking about buying it cutting it down and getting new axles/trac loc
what do you guys think. Is it a worth doing all of that? is that axle even from a F-series?

31 spline and 3.50 gears are two huge pluses.

I could sell that chunk for $250 easy. Wish I had several of them.

If it was used to wheel, "hard wheeling" the axle tube,s could be bent..

Your best bet to finding a "more than 3.00" ratio 9 with trac-loc is looking under a big Bronco. Not all have been "used hard and put up wet" I bought the one I used as a parts source from an 81 Bronco, it had 3.50's, trac-loc and 31 spline axles. I did have to replace the outer pinion bearing as it was pitted, but the gears and trac loc unit were fine.

Head down to Crazy Rays in Jessup. I got my 9" there for $65 out of a Bronco. Got it home to find it had 4.10 gears with a spool. Took it to Autofab and had them shorten it and add new axels, perches etc. Been hamering it with a transbrake since.

    That's a good score.

    I'm debating rebuilding a 8" or cutting down a 9" :hmmm:

To me, this is a no brainer, go with a 9. You will spend about the same $$$$ on an 8 and still have an 8. Spend it on a 9 and your resale value goes up accordingly.
