The I'd tag affixed to one of the centersection nuts will have an "L" in the middle of the ratio numbers.(3L50, vs 3.50) If there's no tag and the wheels are off the ground, turn one wheel, the other will turn the same direction if it's got trac-loc. If the other wheel turns the opposite direction, it's an open differential.

not sure about the for sale rear, but good info on the posi, im probably going to hunt one down at a pick and pull yard and do it my self, narrowing it will be the easy part in my opinion i use to weld so that's not a big deal. finding axles on the other hand might be a problem.

Just buy the axles from Strange, they don't cost crap.

My mav came with a 9 in in it already but it had a 4:57 set of gears in it ,a spool and 31 spline moser axles that I took out in favor of aset of 3:50 gears ,a yukon trac-lock and new quick performance 31 spline axles. My housing measured52.75 in.from outsideof the flanges . I still have those parts for sale if anybody is building a 9 in for their mav. A good source for 9 in parts is http://stores.ebay.com/quickperformanceracing out of Ames Iowa. They had all the parts and info I needed and were very helpful.
