I was wondering if all of the windshield gaskets are the same because I saw someone said they got here windshield gasket from partstrain .com but when I looked for my car I couldnt find one after looking through 50 pages the other person said there car was a 76 comet mine is a 72 I did however after searching the web find a place that sells it to glass shops for $50 and I found a glass pro to install it for me for $50 when everyone else I called wanted well over $100 for the gasket and $200+ to install it
he knew about the rope in part and the old style glue but he said in california they cant use that type of glue anymore. he said by law here they have to use poly urethane sealer. he knew the old sealer never cured or dried up.
I was hoping someone would know what kind of sealer to use? he said he had to use the poly urithane sealer does that sealer work ok? he was telling me he couldnt guaranty the bottom corners not leaking. anyone have any input on this? he also said that with the original glass the rubber should stretch to the max and not have any problems with leaks. I dont intend to drive me car in the rain but I do decide I want to go out for a ride in the rain I want to worry free
They used Essex Brand Urethane sealant on my windshield/back glass and it is working fine for over a year so far.
The urethane will seal just fine. The problem is that it is some tough stuff like glue. If you ever have to take the glass out you will have to cut the urethane with a knife and probably scratch up the paint in your window channel and also ruin your gasket. I believe Craig is correct in that the stuff to use is a butyl sealant. 3M makes the stuff and I thought it was called "windshield re-sealant" but I could be mistaken on the name, it's been a while. Thats what I will be using and recommend to use.
