A 93 Fox body 8.8 is at least 4 inches wider than a Mav rear. So, you'll have to either narrow it to run your Mav wheels or run the 93 wheels and add wheel spacers in front to run 93 wheels there.

Well i have some after market rims to run on it. they are uni lug rims, with et street tires. I was mainly looking for a 9 inch.

Well what would be cheaper, finding a nine inch and narrowing it and putting gears and spool, or going with this 8.8 and narrowing it at worst? Cause either way im putting a full spool in them and just need them to fit. or use the 8.8 and get wheels to off set the back.

Out of those what would be the best course of action.

You'd have to add up all the variables to see which is the least costly. With the 'sploder 8.8, you're starting off with a trac loc 31 spline differential. With a 9, you're going to have to look a little harder to find one like the 'sploder. The late 70's to mid 80's Bronco is you're best bet to finding one. Then figure the cost to narrow both. The 9 has the advantage of no C-clips retaining the axles. But you can replace that by using 9" bearing ends when you narrow it. Then figure the cost of new axles, my Strange axles cost me $400 for the last set.

That's IF the calipers need replacing. Most do not. They don't get used near as much as a front caliper does, and even the fronts are fine more than half the time. The rotors are no more costly than others. And once again, they rarely need replacing due to lack of use.

Here in the north - with the salt - I've never seen a reuseable calipers yet. You guys in the south are lucky if you can save them.

We get rust too, only it's from vehicles sitting under shade trees and the leaves allowed to pile up and mulch into mush that retains water. Or they're allowed to sit out in a pasture and the summer sun bakes the paint off the body, then rust takes over. I've bought and sold several Versailles rears, all had good calipers. Ditto for the fronts too.(Granada/Monarch and Versailles)

so it sounds like the 8.8 might be better?
sucks cause a guy just backed out of buying my ranger. I was going to use that money for the rear end and front disks. I did just get two jobs so hopefully in next month or two ill have my ls1 finished and will throw yall some photos of the build. First comet ls1 i think. only seen 2 mavericks with one on here.

It could be. Explorer 8.8's are dirt cheap, easy to find one for $100-150 with 3.73's and trac loc. But at the same time I bought a trac loc 3.50 geared 31 spline 9 out of an 81 Bronco for $150 when I got ready to swap one into my Comet.

Sounds like you might have misread somewhere about air shocks. They will damage your car after extended use. As long as your tires fit inside your wheel wells you don't want or need air shocks.

Might want to change the gear ratio, that's the only drawback to these rears, unless you're into high speed-long distance runs without overdrive.

I also have a 9 inch rear in my 70 out of a Lincoln Versailles. The disc brake rotors, cables and emergency brake calipers are the hard things to find anymore and are expensive when found in good condition. I am using only the Versailles housing and am planning to use aftermarket brake parts instead of the stock parts. The Versailles housing is just under 2 inches wider than a Maverick housing but still bolts up to your stock mounting pad locations. This only adds an inch to each side so your rims may still fit or you can make up for the added width with deeper offset wheels. I think I remember having to elongate the U-bolt holes slightly because the 9 inch axle tubes were slightly wider too.The gear ratio that was in my rear was somewhere around 2.55 or so. I have since changed it to a 3.89 ratio in an "N" case center section. Bolts right in. Those high gears are great for gas milage but really lame for performance. As many will tell you, air shocks will not be a good idea. Look up under your car and you will see that your upper shock mounts are only spot welded in to sheet metal. With air shocks, you are going to be lifting the car plus hitting pot holes putting forces up against those upper spot welded mounts. I tore a set clean through the trunk floor of a 73 Duster back in the day so I know it can and more than likely will happen. Good luck with your swap :thumbs2:
