did you already have the spacer between the bearing and the axle retainer to make up for the thickness of the caliper backing plate? or what is keeping your axle from moving in and out from that added thickness? i would consider that spacer a necessary part to complete this swap that you omitted from you parts list.
did you find it necessary when you did your Crown Vic. Disc. install? If so, what problems did you have? was this something you read, heard or think it needs? I've had these Explorer, Linc. and Crown Vic. brakes on my car for about 45,000 miles with no problems... Terry, Jeff, Earl, Tim and others also with no problems, to us " it's not a necessary part to complete this swap".
I was thinking the same thing. I have been looking at this swap as a future phase of my build. I was under the impression the spacers were required in order to center the rotor in the caliper. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=85043 If you haven't noticed any problems without them, then it makes the swap that much cheaper AND easier!
I have no spacers... I talked to Bryant, he hasn't done an 8" but did say the several 9" rear ends he did needed the spacers that Currier sells. as with any mod...check the end play as it goes together all of these cars are not the same. I am going to pull the driver side down tomorrow or maybe the next day to check close and see if I can find anything abnormal...:Handshake
I know doing Explorer brakes on a 9" requires a spacer around 0.220" thick to either slightly preload or "zero-clearance" the axle which keeps it from floating side-to-side. I measured my "stack" and made my own, but don't remember the exact number. Never been there on an 8"...
