Just want to say HI to everybody, and to say, I have a 72 Grabber, some what built w/ a 357W, It has sat for about 10 years because of a booboo I did. I down shifted from 3rd to 1st at about 40 mph, BANG, it backfired out both exhaust pipes and left 2 black circles on the street, got it flatbedded back home tried to start it again and it backfired through the carb, what the heck. Well it has sufferd 8 years out side, working its way through several covers. I finally bought a house with a large garage, OH JOY. I finally got the engine tore down, nothing is broke, :hmmm: not even a bent pushrod. Now I'm thinking maybe a blown Mallory Highfire box. Thanks for looking, Ed :D

    Tore-r-down

When I pulled the distributor there wasn't any chips, cracks, breaks, or even any wear on the cam or distributor gear. I checked the timing gears to before I pulled them, the timing marks were still lining up and the double roller chain was nice and tight. I do want the help, I have been puzzled for 10 years on this engine. For the first 3 years or so I was afraid to tear into it because what I might find, you know a Ford engine they eat up a little money during the build, and I had a couple of weeks earlier put in a new crank. So I'm open to any suggestions of what it could be. Thanks, talk to you later:cheers: , Ed
