My power steering oil cooler leaks in my 01 Explorer and was wondering if I could simply bypass it and not run one. I think the Ploder has less than 1,000 miles on it since last year so it don't get used much.

    Any thoughts?

I would replace it with something that will cool the fluid! A lot of the parts, including the reservoir, are plastic and won't stand the heat. You can get a replacement pretty easily from a junkyard, or a small trans cooler from the auto parts store would work fine. :)

The 96 Explorer I had, they had cut the factory one out, and just put in a small aftermarket one.

I would probably replace it with a small aftermarket cooler, those systems generate a lot of heat. The OEM one is probably obsolete anyway.

    Moved to other auto.
    Also, I wouldn't eliminate a cooler personally.
