Hey guys, my name is Perry Johnson, I'm 20 years old, and live in south east Georgia. My dad (jodyj272i) and I seem to have caught a case of Maverick fever, as we have several Mavericks/Comets sitting in the yard (4 of them..) Mine car is a 1971 Maverick Grabber. It has the 250 inline 6, with a 3 speed auto in the column. Within the past year the car has had a complete tune up, a n.o.s. single barrel carb, radiator, all new hoses, water pump, fuel pump, tires, brakes. Today I polished and installed the Datsun 240z wheels, and for Christmas daddy got me a new hard plastic dash pad cover and the material for a new head liner. Over all the car is a really great car. Its good and solid with the only rust being on the front edge of the hood, but even at that its not that bad. The car isn't perfect by any means, but its a work in progress Ive already had the privilege of meeting a few guys from the south Georgia area at the Perry Fair swap meet a month or so ago. Im looking forward to making new friends and seeing some cool cars on here.
, Glad you found your way here Perry!...Welcome to the board. Was a pleasure meeting your dad and yourself.
I'm new to the site and I'm from Nebraska over the years I've had a few different Comets and Mavericks recently my son purchased a 74 2 door with a 200 Motor and three on the tree. I purchased a 1973 Ford Maverick with a 250 inline 6 48000 miles from a 99 year old lady who lost her license back in 93 its been parked ever since. I'm in the process of getting that car up and running. My son and I both are restoreing both of them at the same time. since I'm new to this site I'm still trying to learn where I need to go to post about the issues I'm coming up with first off I put a new battery in the car after soaking the motor and putting oil down the cylinders. that's whin my problem started the battery cables where the wrong colors someone had switched them at one point so I hooked the battery up backwards the plus is it was an old battery and didn't have a full charge it didn't even make a big spark when I hook it upwhen I went to start the car it did nothing I went back and looked at the battery and then realized that the cables wete the wrong color and I hooked the battery up backwards. I switch the cables back around and the car did turn over but I had no spark I cleaned the points and verified I had power at the positive side of the coil. The points after some cleaning worked. Giving the ground on the negative side of the coil but still no spark at this point I am thinking that I possibly burnt up the coil and hopefully not the alternator voltage regulator anybody have any ideas on what i may have damaged and any other ways to test the system.
