1972 maverick with a bent passenger axle. 8'' rear end. Will the axle from a 1970 maverick with 24 splines fit?

My gut says no, cause I thought all 8" differentials had 28 spline axles...

The '70 will more then likely have the 7.25" rear end. So no, the axle wouldn't work.

if you replace the whole axle assembly, it won't matter what the spline count is. it will technically work just make sure and be aware of a couple things
1 make sure the drive line bolts up properly,

2 also might wanna check out the final drive gear difference between the axles. This will effect your top speed/acceleration/and torque

3 are they both 4 lug or 5 lug it'll matter when putting tires back on

4 ring gear size and style, the 70's normally came with a 1 piece housing and 7 1/4" ring gear, the 8" would be stronger but really no difference if your mav is only a commuter.

5 be sure the axle width is the same or close.

Oh, he is asking about the axle shaft, oops I miss understood. This whole time I thought they wanted to know if the axle would work, I was trying to understand why spline count and ring size mattered if they were changing the entire axle from the 70 into the 72

Then everyone is right the anwser is no the axle shaft won't work
