1972 Grabber "Handling Suspension" option?

A while back, a bunch of us got together and had some 1 1/8 bars made up. There were a lot of issues getting them done.

I have the thicker bar with my Total Control coil over front suspension. In the rear, I have Koni shocks, sub frame connector, traction master bar and a rear sway bar. I am amazed how well she handles.

Maybe you guys can get together and see if Addco will do a front and rear bar again.

I contacted Addco, they want $350 to make a custom bar.

 

That is why the group effort. I believe the cost went down dramatically when we ordered several.

Here is Master Parts listing for bars. Varied by engine & whether or not HD option was ordered. The '73/'77 Comet listing shows a 11/16" bar std & 7/8" as HD, all years & engines.

In this era I've not seen anything over 15/16" & that's on my 428 Cobra Jet with competition suspension.

 

Here's a thread about using a 1965 Mustang bar at 1 1/8". A Google search found several threads about Mustang bars. Looks like the key is to slide the mounts forward just a bit by elongating the mounting holes and accept that the end links aren't exactly going to be perpendicular to the ground. http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/1965-1966-mustang-sway-bar-1-1-8-comparison.100185/

I also have some info stashed away somewhere about mounting the stock, 7/8" front bar to the rear axle. It looked pretty acceptable, the size is right, and it was a very affordable swap.

Since there is discussion on the rear sway bar. Here are a couple of photos. This was during mock up. I reinforced the frame mount with 1/8 plate on three sides. The build page has some shots of the rear frame mods.

I made my own brackets and end-links for the rear bar. Also welded plates to the frame rails as mentioned above. End-links have the polyurethane bushings on the bar ends, and rod end bearings attaching it to the frame...
