Ha, that could very well be Mavaholic! Don't trust electric fantangled equipment it scary, Carburator good, turn screw this way engine run slow, turn screw other way engine run faster! ARARAR. Seriously though I am new to this community, I saw a grey Maverick with a EFI 302, that was a beautiful swap, not quite sure if this same fellow is on the forums. But that is one swap I will have to try someday when dad gets a newer truck, and doesn't need the EFI 302.
I had a problem with my duraspark. I bought a stock points type distributor, $29.95, and installed a pertronix kit in it. Has run great for over a year, and I have never even given it a though. The total cost is about $100, for the kit and the distributor, pretty good. Just my $.02. Earl
Sometimes it's a lot easier to find a Duraspark box in the middle of nowhere than aftermarket performance stuff. Also, at the price of the Duraspark stuff, just carry a spare. It's barely a tank of gas in cost.
My Duraspark in my truck as 211,000+ my race car's 6AL maybe 100 miles, both work great! I know this is no help but after 211K I think the cheaper way is the way to go. Terry Gates AKA Bossmav
This engine is really acts odd the miss only seems to be present when the engine is up to operating temp, so that probably rules out an electrical problem, and it isn't very consistant it may run fine for a week than one day it will act up. I didn't realise the duraspark was so reliable, I really do like the fact that it doesn't have points. I did a compression test a couple of months ago and yes there was one lower than the rest, I think seven where between 110-100 and one was 98.
Put a vacuum gauge on and see if the needle jumps in tune with the miss. If it does, there is a valve/cylinder related problem. To find which cylinder, ground out each cylinder in turn to see which one follows the needle action directly.
