Would this t5 work and fit into the Car? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mustang-T-5...a79a860&pid=100005&rk=5&rkt=6&sd=282504616013
http://www.ebay.com/itm/65-FALCON-R...adc092f&pid=100005&rk=5&rkt=6&sd=262816249270 This one fit A 65 falcon. I expect it would fit A '73 Comet.
OK. How hard is it to do a swap like this? Like setting up clutch linkage or speedometer for example.
The speedometer could be as easy as plugging the original cable into the t5. You might need to replace the gear on the cable. Those are about $10. I used the '85 mustang clutch pedal, cable and quadrant. Since you already have A clutch pedal (I didn't), it might be better/easier to use one of the hydraulic clutch setups.
Per Hollander's Interchange, all the column shift manual transmissions from '71-'76 are swappable... They assign a unit/stock number & it's same(1295).. No real doubt the floor shift would probably swap as well, likely something like linkage were different... Info is from a 1981 edition, by that time if they'd made a mistake it would have come to their attention...
I think the only difference between a 6 cyl 3.03 and V8 3.03 is the gear ratio. I think the 2.77 3-speed transmission was in the history books by the time the Maverick came along.
Is that showing that it's the exact same transmission for the column shift manual, from the 170 up to the 302? And that the floor shift transmission is different from the column shifted one?
Ounds like your best bet is to find a V8 bell housing, flywheel, clutch and linkage then install what you have now.
Only difference between a column shift and a floor shift transmission is the direction the shift linkage is facing...one transmission has the linkage facing up...the transmission has the linkage facing down,
Are the numbers listed in the Hollander chart in post 22 for the shift mechanisms or the transmissions? I think I don't understand. I would expect A different gear ratio to warrant A different part number. Now I have more that I need to learn. I just can't believe That the trans for the 170 is interchangeable with the one for the 302.
It's the transmission, granada used same one in '75 & '76... In '77 went to 4-speed O/D... If those were not so difficult to find would be a good choice, hot rodders don't want them because they aren't as strong as std toploaders... Seen guys using them behind big blocks without issue... Third listing in this chart puts it to bed... The 170 did use a different ratio, but 200 through 302 use same input shaft/gear in most of the three speeds used in Full size(A), Fairlane(B), Mustang(F), Maverick(P), Bronco(U) & Falcon(X).. Ford Master Parts only lists through 1971, no reason to think later units would be any different...
Well how about that. Thanks Tom. With the appropriate (v8) bell, clutch parts and z bar it looks like A bolt in. Good stuff to know. I get more smarter every time I come here.
