US Army Veteran new to automotive hobby. I own a 1970 Ford Maverick that currently has a v8 260 engine from a 1964 Ford Falcon with an automatic C4 transmission. Looking to install a v8 302 engine from a 1989 Ford Grand Marquis. Has anyone attempted this previously? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I believe the frame and engine mounts are the same but i might be wrong, you might able to switch over stuff like the brackets and pulleys ect.. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in. Also is that engine fuel injected or carb?
Mounts are in the same basic place. Depending on what tranny was in it you may have to do a little work to line up the tranny mount, I have found an inch difference in some of the old 5 bold bell cases where the mount bolts up to the tailhousing a few times. Should pretty much be a straight swap. SPark
64 would have a 5 bolt bell vs the 6 bolt of 66 and above. You'd need a bellhousing for the C4 if you kept it.
You also might need new motor mounts. The early 260 mount's bolts are spaced 6" apart on the block...late 260 mount bolts are 7" apart, same as the 302. You can count the frost plugs to know if the block is early or late. The early block only has 2 freeze/frost/casting plugs and the late have 3.
