.. have you recheked the torque on the intake? might be getting hot, expanding and causing a vacuum leak.

yes but as I said it's doing the same thing with a new intake and new carb. It just about has to be ignition. wondering if the distributor is bad?

change the module in the distributor and the coil, eliminate it as a possibility then. Or it fixes it.

ok I might try that next. It's factory so it might be bad. The coil was swapped from my 60 ranchero 289 and it changed nothing. I Haven't timed it yet Craig, but a close friend at CJ pony parts told me to pull the distributor and look for excessive wear on the teeth, as that could be a sign of it trying to seize.

Hey guys we found the problem. A wire had rubbed from the engine harness on the top of the motor til bare and that caused said issue. However the car is still overheating even with a new thermostat on the new intake, I think I'm going to pull the engine and replace it. I have a 90 roller motor out of a Bronco ready to go, can I put my carb setup and distributor on this motor and all the accessories bolt on? If so Im going to do that I did a fresh rebuild on it over the winter and I need a backup car for m new job. Any suggestions?

The block is a 68 289 block I put in it several years ago, the heads are the factory 74 302 heads it came with. I did oil pump, new lower end bearings, new timing chain and new timing cover then. The fan is stock and the rad. is about 5 years old. The water pump I'm not sure how old it is I came off the original 74 302 block that was in it. I have a 90 bronco roller motor I thought of putting in it till I got the original 302 rebuilt. Will my A/C power steering and all the accessories bolt up to that motor, I can't remember.

Do you have a fan shroud and what kind of radiator cap are you using?

Other than the block the car is completely factory. No fan shroud and stock radiator cap.
