you know its funny.....they way all this cross-breeding is looked at. I remember being at the Muscle Car Nationals 2 years ago there was a 79' Camaro.......that had a 351w in it, with a sign that read "when I grow up I want to be a Mustang" Now you would not believe the "silly" comotion that stirred up in the bow-tie folks! You see guys putting the o-so-common 350/350 drive line in a 32' Coupe or whatever old car that might wear the blue OVAL and that seems to be accepted. But when you put a "distributor correct" motor in a chevy......sparks start flying..... IMO........if it wears a bow-tie.....it should be powered by a bow-tie. IMO........ if it has the blue oval.....it should have a ford motor in it. *Stephen is right......there is no BIG difference in building chevy/ford now a days.....if anything, you can get MORE aftermarket/bolt-ons for the ford(thanks to the mustang bomb) than anything else. But as always.....its your ride.......have fun with it~!
I'm looking to move to the Austin area. But nothing is final right now. I have to find a job somewhere first, and I'll move where ever the job is. I'm a 3d artist, I make 3d visualizations (detailed modeling and rendering) of mechanical and automotive products and other general inorganic 3d as well. (like architecture) I'm also a photographer, but that is mostly just a hobby of mine. So, if you know a studio that is looking for a high end 3d artist, let me know send them my web link, www.danielbuck.net they can get in contact with me through there.
if you wanted to see some quick fords you should have been to the ffw at firebird in phoenix a couple of weeks ago.
It can certainly be done. Personally, I don't want to see a Chevy engine in a Maverick, but it's your car...
I guess you did not read the rest of the replies. I started this thread a long time ago, it has been resurrected, and I no longer have plans for th 383 in a Maverick.
I know that this thread has been beat to death, but I thought I would post that I have seen 1 Maverick done this way. I didn't study the car, but it had to be a serious pain to do. All the mods to the floor pan, mounts, oil pan, exhaust, and the list goes on and on. The guy could probably have bought a nice 70-something Z28 for what he had to put in that car. I have seen 2 SBC, and 1 BBC Mustang as well... folks with more money than brains IMO. Not that I don't like their swaps, just not worth the trouble. Dave
Engines can't read This is my first post here. My oldest brother got a 70 Mav for his first car...170 3 spd manual, and it got passed down to my sister, my cousin, my other brother, who put a kick ass 302 top loader combo in it. When I was 15 I was drooling over it, but mom said no way and sold it for $1,500 while my brother was moved out. In the mean time we got into Buicks and in my 20's we raced a Regal with an alkie injected 455...10.00 135 mph. Got married, divorced and looking for a new toy. Decided it might be time to get back to my roots! ANYWAY, what I wanted to say is, the engine can't read what's on the valve covers. You could take an IH 345 and put out 600hp..easy if you gots the cash. You could make a 5 hp lawn mower engine put out 30 hp if you have the money. The old saying is always true. Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go. When we raced the Bruick, we always kidded guys with Chevys and Fords, saying, anyone can build one of those, you can get pistons and cams at Krogers. If it is a 4 stroke engine then it will have to follow the same physics they all do...not matter what the valve covers say! Heck, I even thought of seeing if a 455 would fit in the Mav! The 455 with my alum heads is lighter than a SBC.
