Ok, I just read a post on here that changing over to a 5 lug axle also means you have to have the 5 lug housing too. I picked up a pair of 5 lug axles awhile back & got new bearings on them & I was going to take out the 4 luggers & just install these 5 lugs & be done. But now I heard about the axle bearings are different sizes so I have to get the 5 lug axle housing too. Did I just answer my own question? :yup:

The axle bearing O.D. on a 4-lug Maverick housing is smaller than the 5-lug housing. Someone told me that there was a bearing (possibly from an early Falcon) that might make the axle swap possible though.

I've read where some people have actually used the 4ug axles by getting them re-drilled. I personally would rather change out the entire rear end. You can usually pick up a complete assy for $100-$150. I've sold many of them.
