I put an 89 5.0 mustang 5 speed in my maverick. my engine is a 66' 289. it wasnt easy, but we got everything to go together, but when i test drove it, it vibrates like crazy. i know im not the only one to ever do this so i was wondering if any one might know what my problem is or if they have any advice it would be appreciated. thanks

My guess is you used the 5.0 flywheel on the 289 .... Can't do that ... don't run it long or you'll ruin your engine ... the 289 is 28oz imbalance and the 5.0 is 50oz imbalance ..

You need a new flywheel ... a 28oz that has the correct bolt holes for your 5.0 clutch. I have a nice one for sale ... but it's 164T ... I'm sure you need 157T ...

Nothing will interchange ... you'll need to get a billet 5.0 28oz flywheel ... they are made specifically for the swap you just made ... you can get them on ebay ... More than likely it is 157 Tooth ... count the teeth on one of the ones your removed to verify. If it is 164T ... contact me for a deal ..

my original flywheel was for an 11 inch clutch it was 14in"dia, and is a 164t, but the new bell housing required a 10.5 in" clutch so i had to use the mustang flywheel and bellhousing because the new tranny wouldnt bolt to the old one.

    Yup ... you'll need to crack out the wallet and buy a 28oz 157T flywheel ... I don't think they made a 164T bellhousing for a T5 ...

Keep in mind that the flywheels used with a diaphram clutch are drilled differently than a long clutch like the original on your 289 ... hopefully the mount holes are correct on the Orielly's flywheel for you application. I have also seen flywheels that are drilled to except either style.

Well .. you need the matching 28oz Damper as well ... Don't use the 50oz off the 5.0. The flywheel balance, crank balance and damper balance are a matching set. Which Harmonic Balancer/Damper are you using?

Oh ... and dang ... you work fast!
