I have a 200cid mustang with a c4 cruise-o-matic transimission in it. I also have a 65 comet with a 170cid and unknown auto transmission. Is it also a c4? I would like to swap them out but I am very new at working with antique cars. I also am wondering if I can yank the steering and/or front suspension out of one and put it in the other. Maybe I am oversimplifying things, but that is what I would like to do with these cars. Any input you guys have would be a big help. thanks.
My interchange manual doesn't even list a 170 engine in a '65 Comet but it does list a 170 in a '65 Falcon. Anywhoo, the same C4 is listed for 65-66 Comets w/200 cid and 65-69 Mustangs but there's a note that the later Mustangs in that time period might have minor differences.
as much as your welcome to stay here most of the mmbers here can only really tell you about 71-77 comets this site looks good tho http://www.cometcentral.com/
Barry; I had a '65 Comet Caliente when I was much younger, and it did have a 170, and a 3spd. I remember the size of the engine, because I had to have the head redone.
The 1965 Comet definately has a C4, and yes they can be swapped but there may be linkage differences. If the Mustang has a floor shifter you may have to swap the shift levers on the transmission.
