i recently bought a 71 maverick for parts which ive torn down to the bones and am in the process of taking the entire front suspension and putting it under my 74' LDO 2 door. its a perfect fit and all but ive been looking for something with a little bit more function. low and behold a man comes to us curious about the doors from the 71 and the drive shaft. we end up trading them for a set of 68 mustang cobra jet bullet front disc brake assemblies and theyr a perfect fit. we've already plannd on replacing the rotors (108 dollars a piece) and the capillers (25 a piece [not bad]) but recently my dad talked to the guy whom we traded with and found out tht 77' maverick rotors are the same size and bolt pattern at 1/4 of the price. can anyone back this up? any other advise wood be greatly apprieciated, thanks.
1968 Mustang disc brakes are the same on all V-8's. 289/302/390/428CJ The later rotors (1970? and newer) fit so many more cars. I think that the difference is the bearing size. Larger manufacturing runs allow the prices to be cheaper. Personally, I would go with the later disc brakes. Much beefier casting on the spindles, and bigger bearings. Plus you can use the easier to find distribution block that doesn't need a proportioning valve.
MYSIDEKICKGOOSE Are your calipers 4 piston? I have setup of a 67 cougar with 4 piston calipers, The only place I found wanted $165 each for rebuild calipers.
The 67's got the 4 piston Kelsey Hayes caliper setups, these were dropped for the single pistons in 68 if memory serves me. If also not mistaken these same single piston brakes with 10.5 rotors were used on all the Ford/Merc midsize cars until 1980
yea its single piston and this setup is pretty beefy from what ive seen but i have a straight 6 250 block and its a small car anyways so i dont think itll hurt anythin to go with this setup. and thts wat im lookin for baddad457. thanks
