71' maverick, 7.5 or 8 inch rear?

    There's a 71' maverick on e-bay right now and the listing said 8 inch rear but has four lugs? would'nt that be a 8 inch rear? Thanks Robert:hmmm:

    Could be, both the 7.5" and 8" rears came with 4 lug axles. Best to check the rear of the housing, the 7.5" has a bolt-on cover while the 8" is smooth (gears drop out the front).

    i'd say it's an 8 inch 4 lug rear, factory. they used the 7.5" in '70 but by late '70 they all had 8" under them.... 4 lug for 6 popper cars and 5 lug for V8

    I must've had one of the last with the small rear, car was built in July 1970.

    Huh ...... what assembly plant was your car built at? My 70 is a June build and it has an 8" - built at Kansas City plant.

    Interesting ........... they must of had a bigger stock pile of them at St Thomas and they lasted longer in production.
