You can make the aftermarket antenna from Autozone or Advance fit. Or you can put the antenna under the dash...but then you need to fill the hole in the fender.

I'll have to look in to it, yeah I just don't want empty holes in my fender

All that's necessary is remove screws and pull the antenna out maybe 6", the end of the cable can be unplugged from the base of the antenna(prob need pliers)... You can then plug the connector into a OEM antenna from the later '70s but it's still gonna be 31" tall(have one of those on my '69 Fairlane)...

BTW I believe I've seen block off blanks for vehicles that came without radio, but don't remember for sure... I just poke a small hole in the cover and don't worry about it...

Are the later 70's antennas unscrew able from the base mount?

The cable is made into the antenna...it doesn't unplug.

Does on all the ones I've seen including my '72, I've had it out... Unplugs at the large portion on the base...

Years ago I removed the antenna, unplugged the cable and reinstalled it on a '75 F100 that a friend had... He was always pulling pranks on me at work, before that one was over he had the radio out trying to figure out what was wrong... Gotcha!!!

The mast does unscrew from the ones in the mid '80s, I dunno if the cable will unplug or not...
