    Senormercury,

I tried to PM you, but you have hit your limit until you have 10 posts here, and your box is full.

I am having a hard time finding purples here. Do you have extras to trade?

I have some Kmart greens here.

There are two versions of the purples ...
    1) dark wheels and
    2) chrome 5 spoke wheels ...

Purples are only at Walmart from what I gather.

I am looking for a couple of each. I have an eagle-eyed grandson who knows my HWs collection better than I do. If I get something ... need one for him too.

I snuck another vintage one into my main display case not long ago, and this case is jammed. Took him less than two hours of hanging around the house to just casually walk past the case and spot it... he is seven years old ... scary ...

    Vintage Mighty Mavericks

Thought you guys would like a peek at my vintage Mighty Mavericks and Street Snorters that I have on display.

click on the pic for the large view....

I got very involved for a while in doing hard-core restorations on vintage HWs, and actually got quite good at it. That is what fills the rest of this and another cabinet, but it was the Mighty Maverick casting that lead me into that lunacy in the first place ... and ironically, I don't think I have ever done a full resto on a single one, even though I have done 200 plus others.

The yellow Street Snorter toward the center is an exception, but that is just enamel paint, and a pretty easy job. The earlier cars are candy lacquer and a lot more involved, and the Mav casting is harder to find than most other early cars. I have more of them than this, but just display the better survivors here.

The Hot Pink toward the left is an interesting car. Very hard-to-find color ... what boy in 1970 would have one ... not many.

This one was slathered in black Testors enamel when I got it ... but I saw some pink he missed. This lead to painstakingly removing all the black without melting the original finish off of it too. The good part ... he did it shortly after he got the car and the black actually preserved it really well. The blue undertones in the Hot Pink make this thing really spectacular to look at. The car changes colors depending on the angle of the light, and Hot Pinks were always in the sample cases of Hot Wheels salespeople back in the day.

Those aren't Vettes ... those are Lola Grand Prix cars.

The Vettes ... several 69 Stingray castings ... are in the other case you can't see in this pic. ;)

This picture is about 1/3 of this case ... and there is a matching display to the left, both built-in to the wall in our main hallway. They are lit, too. Woodworking is another hobby of mine. The local glass and mirror shop and I got to be on a first name basis with this display and the need to add more shelves as the collection grew.
