Start Fresh, like the above members have suggested. 1. Start by carefully checking your radio, and car's wiring separately: 2. First, make sure you have a good Radio/CD Player, by carefully hooking it up directly to your car's battery, while observing the correct polarity of the power wiring on your Pioneer Super Tuner III. Look up your models installation wiring diagram if you have to. Connect one of your good car's speakers, to the radio, one channel at a time (left front, right front, left rear, right rear). 3. Next, get a voltage test meter, and look for +12 volts DC, on switched ACC key on wiring, (originating from fuse 6). This will be your radio's main power wire. (Black from factory on radio harness) 4. Next, look for the Light Blue/ with red stripe wire (originates from fuse 3) , and check for +12 volts DC when the car's instruments lights are powered on with the headlight switch. 5. Last, create a ground wire, for your new radio, by running one to the chassis metal, in the dash area. You can also run one all the way back to the negative wires on your battery. Let us know what you find. Good Luck! (If you post the exact model number of your Pioneer Super Tuner III, I will give you more details on how to hook it all up)
This Statement contradicts itself. You could still be using a power wire as ground. The Black wire cannot be both a ground wire and a power wire...it's one or the other. If you clearly list the colors of the wires on the Pioneer radio end, and clearly list the wire colors on your car's and radio harness end, then we can have you test to see how to hook it up correctly.
sorry the black wire does NOT seem to be a ground or have power. I will check that I have the correct voltage at my power wires and run a wire all the way to the batt neg to be sure. I have a diagram for the radio wiring so i know everything is connected right. I dont suspect a short in the wiring to the speakers since i connected the loose speaker and could view the new wiring directly to the cd player. A new symtom i noticed is coming from the left rear speaker. everytime i turn the key to on i here a little noise come from it like a pop of sorts. then when i start the car i hear it again- probably because the radio loses power for a second then comes back on. also when you say to check it by connecting it directly to the car batt do you mean the red and black from the radio to car batt posts? fuse between batt and radio on pos wire
Did you ground the black wire from the radio to a good ground? Look at the bottom of the steel dash, there are 1/4" screws here and there, they are good grounds. Pioneer wiring is pretty standard (as all new radio) I just upgraded the Pioneer in my car with a newer one.
The popping sound happens on some older model Radio/CD players, because the amplifier is getting powered up, as soon as you turn the key on. Newer amps don't usually have this problem, because the amp circuitry is designed to dampen/delay the power to the amp, upon vehicle key on, and startup. You can either turn your radio off before you turn your key on and off, or sometimes you can eliminate some of this pop by installing an inline choke coil, in series with the power wire to the radio.
well got 12-12.5+v at my constant power wire and a wire that comes on when the car is on or key is in the on position. the wire that gains power when the lights are on is good too. guessing i blew something in the headunit. not sure but ill be picking up another one cheap tomorrow. guess we'll know for sure then. thanks for the help guys
well picked up a newer and much better cd deck and it works. must have killed the other one some how. oh well thanks for the help guys! now to go find some speakers any opinions/advice?
