i was debating "parting" my 74 4dr into the needed parts of the 72. mainly in the suspension area i was thinking, that way i can upgrade to the 5lug and disc brakes, much better than the 4lug and drums on it now. can they interchange more than that? body/interior?
    thanks

andwrong; I am using the disc brakes, rear end, trans, and engine from a '74 Comet. I think the only things that won't interchange are the bumpers, and the four door specific parts (body parts after the front fenders-if your receiver car is a 2-door), and the seats will, if you have a 2door. Also, the rear glass, trunk lid, and quarter panels won't go over. That's about all I know right now. Some of the others will have more info. Hope this helps.

The fenders on the 74 are different than the ones on the 72. The 72s have the notch for the stone guard while the 74 does not.

Thanks Corbin, you are correct. You can, however, just cut the notch in the '74 fender, and it will fit fine. I did this on mine when I had a bad time finding a fender. Worked fine. Thanks for clearing that up. BTW, your light setup is very nice. I left the fuse panel out in the open, so I could get to it quickly. Yours looks lots better than mine. Later,

Thanks for the compliment, Earl. I wasn't trying to correct you when I said the bit about the fenders, but knowing from experience, that little notch is frusterating at first if you don't realize it's there on some, and not on others... :) Think nothing of it, I hope. I'll keep you upgraded on the lights. I am trying to find some connectors so I can run 14 ga straight to the headlights and don't have to have that splice there from the 14 to the 18. I'll talk to you later. Do you have any pics of where you mounted yours? I guess this should be moved into the appropriate thread... :p

Corbin; I put the box on the shock tower, facing the front, next to the solenoid. I put the fuse box a bit lower, just out of sight. No problem with the correction. That is what is so good about this board. Collectively, we are a force within the Maverick/Comet community, and sometimes we forget or miss something...but not for long. Thanks, and have a happy New Year!!!

    now back to my thread:D

basically i'm just wanting to take all the running gear (motor/tranny/wiring harness/74frontsuspension/???) from the 74 and put it into the 70 *not 72 like i accidentally wrote*

it sounds like the answer is yes though

Don't worry - you don't want to know... j/k! Robert was saying you shouldn't forget to swap that because it is a real pain in the butt to have. Only on 74 models and some early 75, maybe, this device was used so the car could only be started when the seatbelt was on. There were sensors in the seats which sensed weight, and when depressed with the seatbelt not fastened, the car wouldn't start. Very frusterating for mechanics, and hobbiests. It was discontinued after the first year.
