Hi all, new here. I just bought this 75 Mav Grabber from my girlfriend's dad so he wouldn't have to junk it. He was going to help me fix it up, but he recently had a motorcycle wreck, so he can only help so much. I am not very car savvy, so I was just wondering how i would go about replacing the floorboards of the vehicle. I read on the forums that you can use '71 Mustang floorboards, but I lack the car knowledge to know if they would fit in my Mav. Any and all help will be a appreciated. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m196/nekr0nomikon/mav2.jpg Thanks. -Ryan
That's my car "savvyness" showing again. Thanks for pointing that out to me. Also, I have alot of desire to restore this car to original condition, and possibly learn a thing or two about cars along the way.
You may have a lot of desire.....but since you don't have much experience....how deep are your pockets? does it run and drive?
my pockets are pretty deep, and it will run once i get a battery for it. that's my next step, since the engine will run once it has juice.
good luck. one thing is to get a chiltons manual to help you. looks like it could be a oretty neat car. keep with it and it'll eventually get done. you can always ask questions on here.
it definatly has its potential, but will take some metal work. what engine do you have in it? as far as replacing the floors, cut the old ones out and fire up the welder and lay new ones down lol. as far as 'stang floors i would think the '64-68's would be closer in size than the biger 69-73's, but i wouldnt know if it was me i'd probably be tempted to find a clean(er) 2dr body and swap all the grabber goodies over. either way good luck
I haven't had much luck locating another body for the Mav. They all have the same problem mine has, i.e. rusted out and broken. That's why I finally just decided to fix the one I have. Also, with the Chilton's manuals, I can't find one specifically for Mavericks. The only two I found that might be of help are "Ford Mid-Size Cars 1971-85" and "Ford Full-Size Cars 1968-88". I'm not exactly sure as to which category it would fall under, or if I'm even in the right ballpark. If someone could point me in the right direction, I would be appreciative.
Hi Nekr0nomikon, No, neither of those manuals are going to cover the Maverick/Comet, but there is a lot of commonality within the Ford model line - mostly engine, transmission, rear axle. I don't know if the Maverick front suspension is shared with any other mid-size Ford. Another thought would the manual for a Ford Granada or Mercury Monarch - these models were based on the Maverick/Comet chassis & drivetrain. Regards, BaldEagleMav
the gradada and monarchs are fox bodies i believe and will still have little in common with a maverick. i doubt you'll need a guide anyway, you cant get a much simpler car than a maverick. this website will be able to provide you with much better info actual maverick guides have been out of print for many years, so if you want one youll need to pick one up second hand aka ebay lol.
So heading back to my original problem, what would be the better option for the floors? Should I go the route of buying mustang floors and mold them in place, or is there another way i could go about this, i.e. some sort of metal i put down myself? Just out of curiosity, diamond plate aluminum would look cool, although i don't know if it would be practical.
Welll the Granada and Monarch up to I think 77 were Based on the Maverick. THe later ones were based on the Fairmont which was a fox body
is it something you'd be willing to part with, or are you willing to offer help from the manual should i require it?
Sorry I don't have any helpful advice on the floor problem. But I have a '73 grabber that is the same paint scheme but was repainted by one of its other owners. Its is hard to find any pictures of mavs with that color. Well what I am really getting at is, is your radiator core support orange ? Mine was repainted black and there is a small spot of orange under it but it may have been overspray.
