My gas gauge does not work. When i pulled the pulg un the sending unit the terminals decentigrated on the plug. Fortuniatly i had a plug from a pinto and spliced the replacement plug in and still no reading. I jumped the wires and the dash guage works. so what are my options for a sending unit. In researching i found the 76-77 maverick share the tank with a granada but i still can not find a sending uit. I see auto krafters has one for up to the 74. and they cary the seal and lock ring if i need those .
Does any one know what actuly goes wrong with a sending unit or how to repair one? I looked at the spare from my pinto and the seem very basic I dont want to pull mine and make the car totaly unoperarable untill i can figure out a replacement or how to repair.

ive seen it a bunch fo time where someone on here swaps them out. the 71-74 tanks are 15 gallon and the 75-77 are 18 gallon. the gauge might be just a lil bit off because of the different tanks but i would be afraid to swap them. ill be doing the same thing when my new tank arrives :)

:idea:You can always make one. I had a 86' ford Aerostar that the sending unit was bad and had a 79' mustang I was taking off to the junk heap, but kept the mustang sending unit and gently took off the float arm and the sendind unit and tach welded to the Aerostars tube. then hooked it up to the harness and adjusted the arm of the float and made sure it read empty at the most downard postion and it work great from the on. Ford used some cheap materials in their sending units in the mid 80's and up. the quailty of the 79' mustang was much better. Good Luck:thumbs2:
