I,ve got a 1963 comet S-22 which is 4 lug. well today I bought the complete 1964 "mustang 5 lug front suspension - brakes and steering box assy along with a 8 " rear end. the rear end has small bearing ends and axle tubes are stepped down what seems like 12 " on each side. looks to be same diameter as the stock 4 lug rear end. is this the right one needed for direct swap out or am I going to have to have the housing and axle shafts cut down (shortened ? ) the chunk is the non h/d heavy braced hsg so its 1st gen for sure.
    thanks
    bob in tn.

Mustangs had stepped down axle tubes on the 9" and 8" assemblies...As long as its 5 lug you will be just fine. You just cant swap 5 lug axles into a 4 lug housing (Smaller axle bearings on the 4 lugs) they are both 28 spline though so you can swap chunks...Good luck!!!
