Hey guys, i havent found the info im looking for yet so i wanted to see if anyone had an opinion on this. I've got a 1970 2dr mav with the I6 of course. Ive got a line on a 1991 Mustang that someone was gutting to make a drtag car out of. Not sure whats original, but it has a 302 that needs rebuilt(which is my plans anyway) and auto trans, and a 8.8 rear end in it. Its a pretty reasonably price for the setup as well. I was just wondering mainly if the 8.8 rear end would work without major adjustments. I couldnt find width of the entire assembly or spring perches yet. If i have to move perches thats ok, but I really dont want to do any more than that to be honest. Any tips? Any ideas of what vehicles I can get an 8 or 9 inch rear out of that is a direct fit for my 70 mav? Thanks guys!

the 8.8 in the mustang would take a fair amount of work to fit a maverick. you would have to cut off all the brackets, then weld the leafspring pads on in the correct location and with the correct pinion angle. then you need to have the housing strieghtened from the warpage of the welding. the trac loc in those diffs are usually worn out and would benifit from new clutches.
some one on this board sells 9" housings that will bolt in to the maverick and is the right length. you can use the stock 5 lug 8" axles and brakes on that housing. you just need to get a 9" third member for it.
people are selling the maverick 8"s also. check the classifieds.

ok. Thanks. I will read more into the classifieds and keep an eye out. It was just a good deal on that stang, even though i really dont have the money right now i might have grab'd it up and set it to the side for the right time! Thanks for all the input.

the 8.8s out of those usually sell pretty fast. the 85 and older fox body cars used a 7.5. people usually try to get a 8.8 to upgrade them with.

My engine is out of a '92 mark 7, same as a mustang, just speed density. change the timing cover/water pump and the oil pan/sump and you're there. Funny thing was, I found the engine before I owned the car. Bought it 'cause it was a good deal
