For a master and slave cylinder, i used an aftermarket unit made by CNC...they're a circle-track company. Master/slave together cost about $100. Very nice unit, too...and extremely universal. Sorry, but i don't have the link to the site any more. You ought to be able to bring up something on google. Someday i will get around to putting pictures of my entire setup online. BMCDaniel is correct that the third gear is a problem on the t-5's. This was partially fixed on the '90 and newer t-5's (which is why i recommend them). They still aren't perfect, but they are definitely better. I believe the number on the countershaft is 63. The hydraulic setup for clutch is definitely more expensive, but in my case it was a necessity with full-length headers. You can also convert a manual linkage setup, or use a cable setup, but i don't know a thing about either! There are people on this board who have used both, though, so someone ought to know! KillerComet, i've heard of people having problems too, but i think that most of the times the problems are caused by missed gears or running slicks. Slicks+T5+built motor=recipe for trouble! 88-93 are the years to get, though. Or a cobra tranny if you can afford it. And if you've got money coming out of unmentionable areas, then definitely go with a TKO! Lightning, There are several versions of upgraded t-5's and several modifications that you can do to them. They make superalloy gearsets that run about $400, and have overdrives as low as .60 (40% reduction in rpms!). You can buy them at www.ddperformance.com. I think that's the same place bmcdaniel got his transmission. There is also a T-5 Z transmission which has a tapered input shaft bearing. You can modify a "regular" t-5 to use the tapered bearing by purchasing a stock cobra input shaft and having a machine shop do the rest...saw an article somewhere on the web. Sycros are actually pretty good on the t-5's as far as i know, and as far as output shafts, i haven't seen much! I actually got kinda an odd deal on my t-5 when i bought it. I got it off ebay and the guy said it was stock out of an '88 GT. Put it in, and broke a shift fork. It turns out that the guy i got it from had done some modifications to it and a really crappy rebuild (which is why i broke a shift fork). We counted all the teeth and it turns out i got a close ratio transmission (2.95 first instead of the usual 3.35) and an extended overdrive (mine has a .601 overdrive).
I have full length headers, too, and using mechanical linkage. Had to partially cut and reweld the lower arm of the z-bar to get the correct angle and clear the flange of the Lakewood bellhousing.
I came across deal yesterday and I need some advise. I put the word out that I was looking for t-5, the first guy I talked to said his brother has a musting with a t-5 in it (I trust this guy). so we called his brother and he negotiated. he said he wanted $700 for the tranny, shifter, bellhousing, flywheel and the entire hydrualic clutch setup(pedals too). but there's a catch...... the motor is included. And I dont need a 302. Well after talking for a while I got him down to $500 without the motor. I know you guys cant give any advise without knowing the year of the car so I will post that later when I talk to him again. any thoughts on this?
Shoulda got the whole deal, engine and all. Someone would need the 302, if in good shape. Always good to have a spare engine sitting around. If you were close enough, I might think about the roller, if it is a roller. Just my thoughts. Earl
Sounds like a good deal to me! On the c4's and stuff, i was able to get a small-block bellhousing for $20 at the local yards...but you wouldn't believe how much they want for the small block t-5 bellhousings! So $500 for the whole setup is actually a really good deal. The motor might be worth it too, if it is an '85 up (roller) motor. Just to warn you though, you won't be able to use the flywheel that will come with the setup. It is a 50 oz. imbalance, all the pre-82 or so motors are 28 oz. imbalances. It'll vibrate your teeth out! I also got a 50 oz. imb. flywheel in my deal, so i took it down to the local Napa and bought a flywheel from them. They run about $50 and it isn't a new flywheel, just a machined old one...so of course they want a core return, which they got--just maybe not the correct one! Good deal though!
I will find out the year of the stang on monday. My block and crank are from an 88 t-bird so wouldnt the 50oz. be what I need?
